Default rear tire options

I have Hre's 19" and 12" wide. Is there any sticky tires in 19" yet? If not if I get some 18" rims will I have issues with running 18" fronts. I would really just like to get different tires but I am afraid that more cash will be involved (rims). What to you think/know.

Thanks
Gary

Just in case you don't find any tires you like in 19", my 18x10 & 18x12 HRE 545's are just sitting in my garage. I'd be willing to part with them for the right price...

Thanks for the offer but if I can't do the 19's I will just buy 18 541's for the rear.

Gary,

The big 19" pilot sport 2 are a decent choice..
THe BFG drag radials are a joke, If I get a chance I will post a pic of 500 miles and 8 passes on the track and dyno time have done to them
Biggest waste of $630 bucks to date.
They black track on the freeway at speed also..So, I figure if its going to spin them anyways might as well last longer and be cheaper.

305/30/19 and the 265/35/18 are a good choice in sticky tires for the C5... here

I went with the new BFG KDW for the street... If I want Sticky, I will install my racing slicks all the way around.

Try the NITTO 555R's in back and 555RII's up front. I can't beleive the traction I get with these.

The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 comes in a 315/25ZR-19. I don't know how sticky they are (or aren't) but they would fit nicely on your current wheels. Perhaps use these as a cruise/show set up, and get a set of 18's for more serious driving/track use.

**Update, the Continental ContiSportContact 2 also comes in that size, is almost half the price, and got better ratings on Tire Rack's website.

I'd love to go 19s, or bigger. But the Nitto DRs are the best all-around high HP tire for the street I've had. I haven't seen a sticky tire bigger than an 18.

Just a note, in the latest GM High Tech magazine, there's an article about a guy with a Syclone (26psi turbo V6) who couldn't get into the 9s until he put in a boost controller. He held boost down to 10psi until he had traction, then let it go to 26psi.

For well over $600 a pair and still not have enough traction, then what the heck good are they?
We can smoke the pilot sports or any other tire but last a ton longer. At the Track..pffft just put an ET street on and be done with it..traction way better than the drag radials.

Road Rebel, I understand your thinking. I too have street and track tires. Best way to go IMO. It's damn near impossible to have one set be sticky enough to drive on everyday and make them last for any length of time.

Looks like a 345/30 18 is closer to the stock Z06 295/35 18 in dimensions (except for width) than a 335/30 18. I have been running 335s and was considering the 345 BFG DR...but not if it is going to look like the pics of Phils tires. Phil how many burn outs did you do on those at the strip?????

Overall height of a 295/35 18 is 26.13"
Overall height of a 345/30 18 is 26.15"
Overall height of a 335/30 18 is 25.91"

Although the same tires sizes often vary by brand. John @ CCW has told me MPS are smaller in the 335 size than other brands.

Absolute minimal burnout on these..They tend to just roll rubber off and when they get gooye they dont hook well. Track damage really isnt to bad..but the traction is no where near an ET tire, but certainly better than the Pilots.

Most of the damage is done on the street, when you spin them on the rough concrete it just shreds them.
