Hey guys, im posting here because i dunno where else to ask this. i recently bought a Saab 9000 intercooler off eBay for my Typhoon. seemd like a sweet deal. $80 for IC, Piping, and BOV. but that damned murphys law!
apparently the Saab 9000s turbo went bad, as all of the piping and the inside of the IC's endtanks are coated with a nice thick layer of Oil. it looks like the end tanks are removable as they are plastic, so is there anyway to clean the oil out of the IC? i thought maybe hot tanking it, but i dont know if it will get all of it out.
any ideas where i should ask if this isnt the right place?
Is it made of aluminum? What about a mixture of water and Simple Green poured into the IC?
Simple green kills the surface of bare aluminum. Rinse it with a parts cleaner or carb cleaner. block one end and swirl it around a few times. It'll air dry pretty quick and the oil should come out easily.
Good strong concentration of dishwashing liquid like dawn would work well on the plastic endcaps too. Just be sure to get all of whatever you use out.....and whatever you do, do not get anyting like brake cleaner near the plastic
Could you get it flushed out at a radiator shop? I mean basically that's what it is. They have to clean them with something before they braze them. Just a thought. Good Luck!
