The car is a 2001 LS1 with LPE heads/cam/TTS headers, etc. It has been running great (and still is) but just stared making a new noise. The best I can describe it is as a fluttering/ticking sound--kinda like a playing card in bicycle spoke sound. It is rpm and throttle position dependent in that it only occurs at mid-full throttle under load and increases frequency with rpm. It is not present at idle or if revved at rest. No codes thrown. Any thoughts? Exhaust leak? Injector? Bad gas?
Hmmm, could be an exhaust leak, i had a leak when one of my exhaust manifold bolts cracked that showed the same behavior.... Also make sure its not pinging, that would be a bigger problem obviously....
It doesn't sound like what I would traditionally call pinging, but I'm gonna carefully run out this tank and refill just incase its bad fuel. I looked for an exhaust leak today, but I can't find any obvious source. The problem is that I can't trace the location of the sound since it only happens under load.
Specifics Bob, a quote from one of my favorite movies. Where does the sound appear to be comming from? I recently had a sound similar to what you discribed but it sounded like it was comming from inside the car and I don't think is was at all related to the Mag. Maybe be totally unrelated to your situation.
The sound is definitely engine related, but I can't be more specific than that since it is only audible under load. Since I don't have a dyno, I have no way to rev the engine under load with my head under the hood.
