Default Supercharger and nothing else???

Hey Guys,

I have a 98 auto that I have owned since it rolled out of the factory. 150K miles of pure fun. It still doesn't use a drop of oil between changes and is as strong as the day I got it. Heck, I haven't even changed plugs on it. Best car I ever owned!! I am thinking of adding the Procharger supercharger to it. Their website shows a car completely stock with just the supercharger added, running 7 lbs of boost and delivering 487 rwhp. Is this system reliable?? The vette is my daily driver. I do not race the car, but being an old 60's hippie, I do like to occasionally punch it for fun. What's the story on procharger - Real or hype???

The numbers ATI puts out are pretty real. Most people in the FI section love Prochargers including myself. A&A kit is alittle stronger to go with. I wouldn't recomend one on a car that has 150k miles on it. Your engine compents have taken some beating over the years reguardless how you drove it and the SC will add addtional wear fast. Being your everyday car I would not suggest it.

But I don't know if I'd worry too much about the mileage. Do a leakdown & compression test to determine the engine's condition, if all checks out okay...... GO FOR IT!!! Give it a real conservative tune, heck go pig-rich on a/f ratio..... and ENJOY!!!

As long as the compression/leak down #'s look good, go for it with the SC.

150k miles is a lot to be adding a supercharger, but if you don't race the car, and just punch it every once in a while, I don't see it being a big problem, as long as the motor is checked out and in good condition. Just daily driving with a procharger on there is no big deal, you will hardly notice its there until you get on it.

And it's the perfect way to force an upgrade rebuild of an engine with 150K miles on it. Go for it!

It is true that you should have the engine checked before a SC install especially at that mileage. (Also, change the plugs ) But what are the 'higher' mileages that alot of other people put an ATI on. Is 50k, 70k, 85k or 100k too much for power adder like Forced Induction?

Thanks for all the comments. I will do a ompression test first, but it is honestly as strong as the day I bought the car. THANK GOD for Mobil 1. Heck, I even started running Mobil 1 in my harley after I upgraded it.

As everyone else said, Do a compression check...

go with either the ECS or A&A kit, My stock car makes 517rwhp 466rwtq with nothing other then a procharger.......and a safe tune

Go for it!

Any thoughts on a good shop in Dallas to do the install and tune? About the plugs, what can I say?? I am firm believer in "If it ain't broke leave the heck alone!!" That was one of the things that attracted me to the Procharger. It seemed to be the least disruptive to the original design, but offered the best payback in power and torque.
