I've been looking to get better low end torque and I was told LT headers will do that. If I install headers now, will I need to retune the car? Or will I get the full benefit without a tune adjustment? I'm just going in stages and I'm worried that I'll be spending $500+ in tuning each time I upgrade . 3.42s will be next after the headers.
I had a set of Kooks LT's put on with a hi-flow X-pipe (w/cats)..... I "believe" you could get away without re-tuning as the computer is taking readings from both the MAF & O2's to set the fuel requirements.
Your bigger gain may come from re-tuning, but I don't think you'll be in any trouble without it. I'm sure a more knowledgeable tuner will chime in for ya.
I will say they are WELL WORTH the expense & effort. Let us know how you make out.
Instead of spending $500 to have the car tuned everytime.
Why not buy the tuning software and do it yourself?.. there are also alot of forum members who could help you.
More satisfaction from your mods that way... to be safe, I would at least have someone check your A/F when you change a major part on the car like that... I am kicking this around on my car as well right now.
If you want good LT to increase bottom end Tq, go with 1 3/4 of an inch. If you goto 1 7/8 it will take away some. The best two headers on the market are LG Motorsports and Kooks both come in 1 3/4.
As stated you do not need retuned for this.
Hope that helps.
