Default Transgo w/ supercharger

I just installed the A&A procharger kit on my 98 A4 and want to firm up the shifts, line pressure has already been invreased but that did not really have the effect I was looking for. Has anyone had any experience with the Transgo shift kit? How hard is the install?

Did you get LS1 Edit or HP tuner done after your install? That is VERY important. You can change your shift points, firmness, and many other features in these 2 programs. You should not drive your car around until you get it tuned. Its unsafe and could harm your motor.

Yes it has been tuned, left it safely on the rich side w/o too much timing but it still did 450 rwhp, no headers or cam yet so I'm pretty happy with the numbers on an automatic.

I did the transgo and it might be the single best modification on an A4 Vette. Here's the deal, you will have to remove the tuning changes for the tranny.

The difference between the shift kit and the tuning is pretty simple. The tuning will determine when you should shift based upon RPM and throttle. However, as the guys with the M6's know, you don't always want to shift just because it is ideal to shift at a particular point. With the shift kit, shifts will be much quicker, but more importantly, the driver can control up and down shifts completely in 1-2-3 gears. It's like driving a M6 without the clutch (oh, and the last 2 gears).

It's a ton of fun to be able to shift and bark the tires on demand.

Thanks, that helps, when you say remove the tuning changes do you mean decreasing the line pressure back to factory settings?

Default Install in the garage on jack stands

The install is a bit intimidating for a back yard (or garage) mechanic in my opinion. I did mine and was a bit concerned when the small ball bearings dropped out. It took me most of a day to set up, pull the pan, pull the valve body, modify the metal gasket, install new parts including the washers for the firmer shift and then putting it back together. It is a great mod and well worth the effort. Mine has held up with a Protorqe 2400 converter for two years now. I am running 11 pounds on a forged Luniti engine. I keep waiting for it to go so I can invest in a built FLP unit. I ran 335s for a while and just spun them. The kit does come with a tape and pretty good instructions. If I had it to again I would pay 100 to 125 for install. Otherwise I would do myself.

i.m.o. don't waiste any money on the shift kit. wait for your trans to take a crap and than replace it with an f.l.p. level 4 trans. the new trans will have the hard shifts you are looking for. at 450+ rwhp your trans wont last long.

Interesting thoughts. . .I guess there are different options for different folks?

I went ahead and built the tranny at the same time I added the shift kit. When you upgrade to the FLP, will you have full control of the shifts? If not, I think many of you are missing the point. It's not ONLY firmer shifts, but the ability to control when you shift which makes the shift kit cool.

Yes, I agree the firmer shifts are nice, but, controlling the shifts is the part which made the shift kit work for me. I was running around 600 rwhp with the tranny as it has been with no problems. Uh, except my engine which blew last weekend!

Thanks for the input. The kit was installed today and actually works rather well. How much does a "built" tranny cost?

It depends. As many on this forum have done, you could go with a FLP level X. It's a bulletproof setup. However, if you have people who are capable of doing the work, you can also use strengthened parts and build up the stock tranny. That is to say, you will replace the parts with strengthened parts. We bought all of our parts from:

http://www.transmissioncenter.net

The parts have worked like a champ. . .
