Default Manual Trans 1-4 shift eliminator

I found this unit that eliminates the 1st to 4th gear force shift we have to deal with. Does anyone have/know someone who has installed this? Does it work?

Yes there is part called the CAGS Eliminator which allows you to switch into any gear when you want. The light on your dash will still flash on, but you don't have to pay attention to it.

The install is simple about 10 mins when the car is up on ramps. You can find instructions by going to

http://97vette.com/howto/cags/

Good luck many MN6 owners have it done already.

Are you kiddin'?!? Of course...most nearly everyone I know with a six-speed has one...including me.

And...Yeah, it absolutely works. If you take more than five minutes installing it...you're moving tooo slooow.

It's actually a 20 ohm resistor that takes the place of the selonoid on the tranny. But buy the eliminator it has all the right connectors to keep things clean. Worth the $15 to $20.

ok, tell me if my understanding of this install is correct:
mid america shifter bypass: http://www.madvet.com/shop?frame=1.101

install instructions: http://97vette.com/howto/cags/

a) new small connector connects DIRECTLY to transmission.
b) the piece removed is connected by a wire coming FROM the harness.
c) this original unit connected at the transmission connects to the new large connector
d) secure large connector to the car

Question: so why is the large connector have two parts? Does it have only one connection port or two?

The easiest way to eliminate the skip-shift "feature" is to run it up to about 2K RPM in first before shifting....

This was the first mod I did to my car when I bought it. Easy install and it sure is nice to be able to select the gear you want when you want it.

The instructions are correct. The reason for the second part is so that you don't have to leave the original connector hanging exposed to the elements. So, you unplug the connector from the tranny. Plug in the CAGS eliminator to the tranny. Plug in the original connector to extra plug on the CAGS eliminator.

It's a minor mod worth having, especially if you have to drive in alot of traffic and can't get the rpm's above 2000 to shift to 2nd. This mod, will let you shift to 2nd when you so desire.

I don't have it, I don't need it, and I don't want it! I'd rather shift at a higher RPM and listen to the Corsas growl!
