trunk lid stuck

trunk lid stuck
My friend has an '02 conv.. his brother forced the trunk shut on a suit case and since then the trunk won't open. there's sort of a grind noise when he hits the button. here's my questions to youz guyz
- has this happened to anyone before?
- can i open the lid from the inside by taking the latch apart then possibly repairing it?
- anyone have a clue as to how much this might cost to fix?

THen after that - try and pull the trunk release cable behind the drivers seat - it might help if someone can go inside the passenger side and hold the bag down - WHATEVER you do - STOP and think about it for a sec.... this is the time when people accidently screw things up

I got an idea....you pay to fly me over and I will get it open for you 
Actually there are 2 cables...the one behind the seat will pop the top cover......but if you can get the drivers seat all the way forward and look back just behind the wheel well you will see the one for the trunk....a little tough to get to but it is there

Mine is right in the middle of the trunk against the back of the rear facia. Hard describing where it is. Basically right underneath the latch which is in the middle. At least that's where mine is. Keep us posted we like to find out how you get in there. If you have a small kid you could send him in there to find it. Just a thought.
