I've been trying to decide on an exhaust system that will sound like my ideal and that is the sound at idle and through all the RPM's like a flat head Ford with Smitty mufflers. Are any of ya'll old enough to recall that wonderful sound and tell me what current system/mufflers will make my C5 sound close to that music? The fidelity of the sounds coming thru the threads and vendors websites just does not seem to me to accurately duplicate the sound(s) of the various systems. Lew W
I can remember the sound of my neighbours '50 Ford, three speed on the colum. Or a friends '50 Olds, 52 engine, 2 two barrell carbs '36 Buick top shifter auto rear end, got ninety out of second, with Smitty's. Don't believe you will capture that exact rumbling with a C5. Try to find someone with BB RT 66 cat back. You might like that note.
Must admit I do remember the sound of a flat-head-6 with a Cherry Bomb muffler. Loud enough that it drowned out the 8-Track player hanging under the dash
Best thing to do is to meet up with other Vette owners with aftermarket exhaust and give a listen.
I have a full house flattie in a 27 high boy,3 2s Offie heads, Isky cam and glass packs ( hate the Smitty sound ) , you will never get that sound out of the techno marvel LSx motors, just two different worlds man.
My Uncle used to race those engines out in Ca back in the early 50's. I agree that glass packs sound like nothing else. But you can still have some Snarley exhausts if you look around
