Default Skid Bar Replacement Question (after wreck)

They really should outlaw women talking on cell phones while driving. I got T-boned pretty bad and it shot the Vette up onto a curb.

Anyway, to make a long story short after the wreck and the repairs, the dealer replaced the skid bar (or skid plate, whatever) but didn't paint it. My question is without paint, will the skid bar rust over time?

It's my understandig that it is not aluminum but in fact a lighter steel, which sounds to me like it will rust. Not to mention the minor eye sore of two shiny unpainted metal bars sticking out from under the front bumper.

Also, I hear that you have to know what you are doing to get the paint to stick to the skid bar, which I doubt the dealer knows how to do.

Can you guys help me advise the dealer body shop, so I don't have to take it back a third time?

I'm sure it will rust. Until you scrap it on something anyway.

If it's being repaired under insurance why not make the dealer do it? It's part of the repairs.

Otherwise, I'd just put some Rustoleum black on it.

nothing special to it .. however you're going to have to paint it on the car as removal is lengthy.

Yes, it will rust. I would have the body shop paint it - it is something they should have done in the first place. Work with your insurance company to ensure they do it.

I painted one. Nothing special other than preping to remove the oil/ slag from the welding etc. They look pretty rough just out of the box! If it's on the car removal would be a pia! I'd just shoot the bottom "skids" you won't ever see the rest.
