Just another "bright" modding idea...
I was browsing through a corvette parts catalog the other day and came across an add for replacement headlight bulbs. The claim were that the replacement bulbs were MUCH brighter than stock bulbs with a white light instead of the yellowish light of the stock bulb. I do my fair share of night driving and would love to increase my visibility (legally!) in the dark. I would appreciate any ideas that are out there...
Thanks
I agree that SilverStars are the best 'legal' bulb set I've found. There are other bulbs out there that are higher wattage, but they exceed the legal limits and are intended for off-road use.
im doing t84 euros but they make a new bulb that replaces the 9006 and 9005 they are 9011 and 9012 they are made by ge and use a new "hir" technology
they put out double the light of standard bulbs and produce no more heat as they are the same wattage they are dot approved and come factory on some of the new bmws light output is claimed to be 75 percent of hid lights
kinda expensive at 35 bucks per bulb but ive got some coming for my mone carlo and will post my results for the new 9011 and 9012 bulbs
silverstars in my opinion dont help much
do a search on the 9012 and 9011 according to what i have found they are the brightest halogen lights you can get with legal lights as 9005 and 9006 high wattage bulbs are unsafe and illegal

Talk to me about the unsafe issue? What are we talking about here- melted headlight housing or worse??? So if I got it straight then HID's are illegal but HIR's are not???
Thanks
9012 is the low beam 9011 is the high beam you will have to grind part of the base to fit in the housing as one of the tabs is thicker than the regular 9005 and 9006 other than that they are no problems to fit and will have the same pattern as the stock lights just 125% more light output total the low beams put out 88% more than a 9006 and the high beams put out 44% more than a 9005

125% more light in the OEM housings in not good IMHO.. Additional light must come from somewhere, which usually means over wattage bulbs. These are sold for "Off Road Use Only" That gets the manufacturer of the leagal hook. Over wattage bulbs can also melt your wiring harnesses if you are not careful. If you have to file something to get it to fit, it probably shouldn't be installed. These things are designed like they are for a reason....1st $0.02 deposited
The optics for HIDs needs to be first rate, especially at those light levels. You can have the brightest bulbs(highest wattage) and only manage to blind oncomming drivers. The key is good optics first then the bulbs. OEM optics $uck. Do a search, there are a couple of guys looking at developing DOT approved kits that will utilize HID spec optics with HID projectors.
