Carravaggio/3M question [HELP]

I talked to him yesterday about re-painting it MY. He said unequivically that he is not going to be the one to remove it even with the limited amount of 3M tape that's on there. Could damage the paint, the spoiler or both. He suggested painting it in place which will cost a bunch more.
I've heard of people using fishing line to cut the BSM's off. What are my chances with this. It won't be the end of the world if the paint UNDER the spoiler is marred because it's going right back on.
Thoughts?

Michael

The emblems are much softer than the Caravaggio. I just removed two myself and a third tomorrow. No damage to the emblems or deck lid.
I just installed the Carv. and it's so much more durable than the emblems. The fishing wire is not serrated or such, it just slides in between the 3M and spoiler creating an airpocket. Just do a small section at a time, put something in between to keep it from reattaching itself and continue across.
It's not that dainty. Just do it.

He has NO exposure to Caravaggio and limited exposure to Vettes. But I gotta respect his unwillingness to take on the "removal" portion. He seems afraid of M.Y. paint in the first place

BTW, my buddy did mine with a fair discount. I gave him $125 for just the spoiler (two colors), $275 for the rear bumper (two colors) and I couldn't be happier with his work. I'd have sent you to him if you were local.
Glad to see your gonna get it done anyway Mike. It's gonna look awesome. Thanks for giving me the extra mod nudge. I love mine.

If it helps any, I had to take my spoiler off once. I put it on by myself and got it just a tiny bit crooked so I removed it. Mine was only on there for about a day before I removed it so maybe the tape hadnt fully stuck yet but it was still on there pretty good. I just used the fishing line trick and sawed my way through it. I applied a ton of painters tape to all surrounding areas so that I couldnt harm any of those locations. I had a ton of tape on the spoiler and it was almost impossible to get off. The fishing line kept breaking on me and even though I was wearing gloves it still cut into my hands.
It can be done, I have no doubt. I really dont think that you will harm any of the paint beneath the spoiler but like you said, even if you do, you will just cover it right back up. I honestly wouldnt want them to try painting it while it is still on the car. It seems to me like that would be hard to do and might lead to problems.
Good luck
