Horizontal ... you definitely need a seal ... otherwise you'll have HP leaking out of your engine bay. And we all know how we hate to see HP laying wasted on the side of the road.

Vertical. Bought a single strip of the OEM seal GM uses on the sides of the hood, trimmed length to fit, and installed the same way (vertically) the seals on the side are installed. Works well.

The idea was to get more air with the filter, why cut some of it off????

Sponge Vette I have that stainless steel overlay where your's is yellow. I guess my question is will it stick to the stainless steel? Is that a blackwing I see in there?
Well mine wasnt sticking well so Im going to start over but Im wondering..........
Did you guys install yours on the vertical surface or the horizontal surface?? Ive seen a few posts for each way...curious about the majority.
I have a Blackwing and NO hood seal and NOT a drop of water can hit my filter, I will take some pic's and put them on my homepage to show the mod I did. I'll post when I upload the the pic's of the mod.

I have the same set up, with the S/S overlay. Works fine.....
Cleaned the area well, then I used a thin layer of black silcone to keep the hoodseal in place. The 1st time I installed it, it started to peel away within 2 months with just the sticky tape on it.
