If the modded engine is done right, it's an OK deal, but I have known a few local folks that had a ton of problems with engines that had major mods. And as mentioned, no warranty.
Installing an LS6 engine into an LS1 Corvette.....to get the 405HP, don't you need the mating headers, exhaust, computer, and more? Maybe the throttle body, sensors, etc.?
It could get ugly.......or should I say more costly.
Buy a wrecked 02-04 ZO6 for your donor. Then you'd have everything you'd need to get the entire 405HP.
Read the ad. It comes with the throttle body and the exhaust manifolds (although why you wouldn't install headers if you have the engine out of the car, I have no idea). I've never heard that the computer or sensors are different.

Just my thoughts.

The engine I looked at from GM comes with throttle body back to the exhaust manifold, including the intake manifold. No electronics. I was actually pricing the LS2 but it is the same deal with the LS6, the LS2 is about 3 hundred more bucks. Also they will have the LS7 crate engine in the fall of 2005, no price yet. This is really what I am waiting on as long as it is not a 20k dollar 427 like all of them on the market now. I am not a mechanic so I would be taking this to a vette shop if I would do it. Also and I believe I was on the GMpartsdepot.com. I sent in a question to see if the LS2 and 4L65E A4 would mate up correctly and the tech guy told me yes it would. I am a bracket drag racing enthusiast and I prefer the A4. I sold my 03 coupe about a month ago and I actually have been looking for an older vette with lots of miles cheap or one with a blown motor. I have found a few but not a lot of luck. The problem with a Z06 is it will cost considerably more than an older C5. I really do not think there would be that much trouble getting the HP out of the engine just because it is in a C5. Most people doing a project like this will replace the Z06 exhaust manifold with long tube headers anyway and the rest of the exhaust does not make that much difference. Of course you will need the electronics and a pro to get things working. Although there are guys on this forum that tackle jobs like this that is way out of my league. Z06 used exhausts are fairly inexpensive and readily available. I personally think it is a descent way to get a nice hot rod, just dont plan on reselling it and getting much money back, this would be a car to keep.
