Default Warm Enough to Start

It finally got above 40 degrees. Took off the cover, disconected the battery tender and I started her up for the first time in over a month. She sounds great, just wish I could have taken it for a ride. Only a month or so till she is out again.

It's not a good idea to start the engine and idle it like that. You've just introduced more moisture into the oil and into the exhaust. If you're gonna start your engine, you should always get the oil good and hot (above 180F for at least 10-15min or more, but by driving, not idling)

You've also introduced more carbon into the combustion chamber too, and are fouling up your plugs.

Sorry to be the bearer of negative tidings, but it's the truth.

Thanks for keeping us honest. I've sat since late Oct w/ the urge to do the same. Even w/ a warm spell in Chicago this weekend (40+ weather), the threat of snow this week kills all thoughts of getting the toy out and enjoying it. Hope to post the "fired it up" post in the next 45 days...

Please, someone in the South or CA post one of those winter day in the sun picture that frustrates us all.

I don't understand? Yesterday and today in NH we had 45-50 degree weather with sunny sky's. I took the vert out yestrday and gave her a 30-40 minute run. Today I took her to work on the back roads for 35-40 minute each way. Had the top of half the time.

Snow is due on Thursday or Friday. Once the snow and ice are off the road she is out and running again.

It snowed here yesterday and was pretty cold this morning. It's going to be another month or two.

It wont be back on the road until all the salt is gone. I do not idle it. I bring it up to temp, running through the RPM range for 15 minutes.
