That car isn't due to be smogged for 4 more years. Use LG or other bolt on LT that requires no cutting, welding etc. and keep the stock manifold if you are worried. You can always put it back on if you have to.
i heard it is 6 years now before smogging 04 and later.
Nope cause they don't let the puter connect to the central database. They just run it for pass fail. You can take it to another shop and they will never know you had the pretest done if you don't tell them.
If you go in and tell them you want a pretest cause you have a bunch of mods, then go back for the final test and they nail you for the long tubes! Welp???
Fool me once shame on you! Fool me twice and shame on ME!
Starting January 1, 2005, owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification.
...vehicle transfers occuring on or after January 1, 2005. When you transfer a vehicle that is four or less model years old a smog certification will not be required. A smog transfer fee will be collected from the new owner. When a vehicle is more than four model years old, evidence of a current smog certification must be provided by a seller except when the following occurs:
- The transfer occurs between a spouse, sibling, child, parent, grandparent, or grandchild.
- A biennial smog certification was submitted to DMV within 90 days prior to the vehicle transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification).

Nope not at all......most smog shops will try and sell you one anyway. It's a good and easy money maker for them. Totally legit and no red flags at all. You're just out a few more bucks.
Personally, I would spend the money on some nice ported, complete LS6 heads and a nice aftermarket cam that would cost you less than $2000. Get a good dynotune, underdrive pulley, timing chain, etc. professionally installed for another $1500 and you will have a dealer stealthy, CARB legal machine that will put out far more hp than a set of LT's. Your going to spend $1500 for a good set of LT's plus $400-500 to have that PITA job installed, plus another $500 for a good dyno tune.
Spend the extra $1000 on a good set of heads and cam and nobody will ever know you modded the engine. Also, consider running a K&N FIPK intake as it is CARB legal and will give you another 10-15rwhp. Remember, you have an '04 so you are already starting with a LS6 block, intake, and exhaust manifolds. Talk to Andy at A&A or Shawn at LAPD, only about an hour from you. They stand behind their work. Good luck with your decision.
I never thought of that route. I would definately check out Shawn at LAPD to see what is there for me.. Thank you for your input!
Explain to me how this can be done LEGALLY and I would be happy to. But since the police are looking for folks doing just that it isn't smart.
Go buy 1/4 acre of Nevada desert for $50 and list that as your primary residence. You'll have to vote in Nevada and you can't claim homestead exemption (if you Ca guys even have that), but it's legal.
I just sold my 99 c5 with kooks headers cats and borla's. all that crap is illegal in cali. I had a hook up. thats how it passed. only way. dont mod your car is the other way. im getting some nevada land soon. lol
Someone please lock this before someone gets pinched.
Whoa!!!! Getting a car smogged is starting to sound like transacting a dope deal......smog is over rated here anyway. If you can't see, smell and taste the air you're breathing what good is it
What I have found is; First if your car can't pass the actual emission test it probably needs a good tune or engine rebuild (rings etc). If you pass the emission sniffer with no emission related history codes, The engine compartment and undercarriage is clean and professional looking no leaks or hanging chad, Most all centers will pass you.
The only state level check up is when the tester communicates with the state computer and transmits the sniffer, OBD codes and Gas cap. All the other stuff is check box visual.
Just be a regular guy getting your car smog check and if all of the above is in good shape they will pass you.
Nothing against the law, no fraud or intimidation. The rule of thumb is to pretest, take their advice, and if they guy is a nit pick Pr_k a~~hole, it will show up there and you can go somewhere else. Plain and simple. I think we are knee jerking this simple task just a tad!
