Default Repair or Replace transmission?

I knew this day would come?

My first gear synchro in my 01 Z with 30K miles appears to be going bad (it grinds real hard if I don't put it into second and then first when starting in first gear).

I remember hearing that there were some upgrades made to later t-56's and I am wondering what upgrades I need to do. My Z is a daily driver that goes to track and the strip 5-10 times a year.

I have light mods for now, but at the minimum I will go H/C or SC sometime this year.

Any suggestions on where to get the work done near Portland, OR?

Any suggestions on where to buy a beefed up tranny and about what I can expect to pay for one? My mechanic can install one, but does not work on tranny's.

Thanks,

Mike

Crashed94 <?> on this forum can help you with that transmission. Depending on what you would like to do and what your budget is you can also look at G-force transmissions.

Here is my take on rebuilt vs. new tranny (at least with Autos). I'd assume that the situation is the same with Manuals. If you have a person you know local who is VERY proficient in trannys, a rebuilt might be the way to go. They can build it to your specs and make sure that it can handle what you can throw at it. You may also purchase a "new" tranny from the dealerships. I've heard a rumor and I don't know if it's true. When you buy a "new" tranny from the dealership, they're actually refurbished units brought back to OEM spec. Anybody hear anything about this? If that's true, I'd definitely want it to be rebuilt to my specs.

Default Z06 Transmission

A friend told me More Performance, Charlotte NC, has access to new 2004 Z06 transmissions at a great price.

Give them a call, 704-393-8241.

I'm having a problems with my 2002 Z06 tranny and am working with a dealer, one that is really trying to help me resolve the issues.

I lost 3rd and 4th gear sincros about a month ago on my 01 with 33k on it. I took it to the dealer who rebuilt it using 04 sincros under extended warrenty and it is as tight as a virgin. Took it right to the track and have had great performance since.
