lambo doors
i am getting a 1999 black C5 FRC in a few weeks, one of my 1st mods i want to be either the lambo doors or polish some stuff in the engine bay. where do i get the kits for the lambo doors?

where to get lambo door kit? boost them off a 16 year olds '98 accord lx... but leave him the aluminum wing.
just kidding, lambo doors rule!!! i live next to a lambo dealer, and i drool over them every time i walk through the door. the problem is that the standard door isn't ment for the 'scissor motion'. the car will look awesome with them... unfortunatly you will look like bambi trying to ice skate when you try and get in. (it's easier if you have a vert)

Have you seen them in person yet? I was set to get them ... met another Vette on Saturday that had them. Here's a couple of things the owner told me:
1. "They are A LOT more work to install than you're led to believe."
2. If they aren't all the way down before they are shut, you get a nasty chip/nick in the door near the lock. <--- Saw this up close. Pretty bad.
3. No recommended for daily driver.
Just my $.02 but enough to sell me ... on NOT getting them. I hope you have better luck if you decide to go forward with them.

Melting Slicks
id get the ones with the auto hydrolic actuating doors. press a button and they open/close by themselves. Very $$, but the only lambo conversion id do. all the others are wayyy to cheap quatlity and remind me of a civic mod.

I saw the Lambo doors on a freaked out Z06 at a car show in Tampa a few months ago. For that car they worked, but this car's list of mods came in hard cover books.

I don't like the lambo doors conversion either. I did see them and the way they are counter-balanced they feel like the weigh nothing But if you like them go for it!

I saw them on a C5 coupe at the Carquest World of Wheels show last week-end in Indy. The owner liked them, but agreed that the cost, the installation, and the daily operation were negatives. They were OK on a "show car", but not a daily driver. Also, I operated them, and they seemed very unstable. Only the most careful (****) owners could handle them. JMHO

Don't forget safety... like what happens if you were to roll your vette over? Only reason I bring this up is because my friend has a NSX with lambo doors that he rolled and couldn't get out of for 10 minutes. After the safety team got him out his car caught fire.

Liked them before I saw them in person. Heres a picture from one of the shows I went to.
The door is VERY flimzy, doesnt flow with the lines, and it does not line up straight when you shut it. Way to many problems for me to drop that much $$ for.

Someone on Ebay sells them as well for around $2200 I believe. As far as I'm concerned those are maximum ricosity, but of course that is my opinion. Get what you want.

doors open out--then up...not bad. But even the owner had some
concerns about the install.
No matter how you do it, it's just not a cut-n-dry add-on. Especially
condsidering the money involved.

Lambo Doors
I just completed having a set installed on my 2002 Convertible. There are a number of things to consider before making the decision.
1. Quality of product. There are a number of companies that provide the door kits. I concluded my research and decided on the kit that has the double struts. This makes the door very light. (At time almost too light, the door wants to lift on its own)
2. Installation: The installation is very intrusive. Cutting of the inside door skin, battery box holder, cutting door support bracket, etc…
3. Extra weight: The new hinges I purchased add an additional 50lbs to the car. The old hinges weigh ~2 lbs, the new hinges weigh ~25lbs each.
4. Cost: The base kit will run you ~ $1K, the custom modifications to make it bold on to the C5 will run another ~$1K. Then you have installation.
5. Versatility: The kit I chose has a convenient opening process. First the door opens like any normal Corvette, ~25 degrees. This is enough to enter and exit the vehicle without lifting the doors. After the 25 degree mark is reached, the door no longer swings horizontal, but now goes vertical. Very light lifting pressure and the door lifts. My doors lift up to ~90 degrees up, much higher than most other kits.
