Default Hood Liner Question

If you've taken your hood liner off, can you drive the car?

I know it's for noise suppression but does it also protect the hood from engine heat? Will your paint be damaged if you drive with it off?

Yes, you can drive the car with the hoodliner off. However, IMO it looks better with it on there and with the logo painted.

Yes, you can drive without it. It is not there to suppress heat.

Look at how many people have custom painted rail covers. They sit just a few inches from the headers/exhaust manifolds...the hottest spot there is in an engine bay. The paint on those don't melt, why would your hood?

The hoodliner, besides being a sound-deadener, it a measure for fire suppression.
In the event of an engine fire, the liner will give way, fall down, and (hopefully) smother the fire.

Exactly why I'm asking. I want to know if I can drive it while I'm painting the hoodliner. I'm doing something a bit more than just painting the logo and it will take more time.

Good points. Just thought I'd ask. Better to be safe than sorry! Thanks.

Ha! I drove 6-months without while waiting for a PaulaH.

Nary a problem.

hmm, so after the hoodliner is covered in black paint and then custom painted will it still smother out the flames or will it be more like adding lighter fluid to a BBQ grill??????????????

Depends on whether it looks good or not. If I screw it up, I'll deny ever trying to do it!

That occured to me too, but then I figured, if it catches on fire, I don't know that I WANT it to go out. I think I'd just as soon let the insurance company buy me a new one.
