I have a 99 vert with 66000km or rougly 40 000 miles. Havent put a dime on repairs just the usual oil change, coolant flush, new tires a few months ago... not even brakes yet ! For some reason the C5 scares me when it comes to repairs, no dealers up here are familiar with corvettes... I am seriously considering posting it for sale this spring on this simple concern.
What repairs should i worry about, what is on its way, how much is a cluth, how long do they normally last ? I have heard of guys doing tons of mileage on C5s, this is a daily driver and I do not want to spend time in a garage troubleshooting this amazing beast.
I know this is the ultimate vehicle, but it has 4 wheels, an engine, brakes, transmission...ect. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work on it, it just takes a little more time.
I think the car is completely workable. Almost like the 50's. No more vacum tubes hiding the engine and all it's workings. I don't care how long it will take to fix this car if it ever goes bad. I'll spend the time and get it done. The car is worth the effort. My .02

The cars are really pretty reliable. As with all cars, you have to do the routine maintenance, but not much else breaks on a regular basis. The clutch will depend on how you drive - many here have quite a few miles on theirs with no problems.

I have a '97 with 102,000+miles and it looks and runs like new.
My 98 has alomost 59,000 miles and no major issues. The tranny did leak a little and the dealership took care of it under warranty. I might need a clutch replacement soon, but other than that, runs awesome.

Let's keep in mind here, under all that beautiful plastic...it's just a chevy! We may all be a bit paranoid about them, but they just aren't that damn hard to work on. There's no way I'd get rid of a car with 40k miles on it because I was worried about reliability...unless it'd been a dog for the preceeding 40k miles.
