I really like the overall appearance of my engine and engine bay.
Guess I'm a non-Bling type of guy.
Have Lingenfelter covers, but have all of the stock looking brackets etc.
I'd like to preserve that look yet jazz it just up a bit (without chrome) by polishing the exposed metal brackets, etc.
Have polishing tools and equipment along with special metal polishes etc.
[QUOTE=Patches]Did my valve covers and have a few polished caps but that's the extent so far. I'm primarily concerned with performance and keeping it clean.
But, hey! Go for it! /QUOTE]
...and no body does it better than Patches
..I do like polished aluminum parts and accessories...
Oh and one chrome alternator...
I'm doing this now since these parts are off for a head and cam swap. I have one valve cover done as well as the 90 mm throttle body. The LG throttle body was easy due to the high quality cnc milling. The alternator is tough due to all the cooling slots, this should be done in a few days. First I use a file to knock down the casting lines then a die grinder with 3m 1" x 1" scotchhbright rolls for inside pockets. Then sanding with 80 grit working down to 4000 grit, then polishing. Oil, WD40 or kerosene should be used with wet or dry sandpaper not water because water will start corroding the aluminum. The luster is better if sanding is done in the same direction when possible. The water pump looks like a lot of work and mine is starting to leak out of the weep hole so a polished Meziere pump will save a lot of time there. When finished the parts are stronger and lighter than original. I won't clear coat any polished parts but have painted some steel parts such as the alternator pulley.
I have done it with my Valve covers ( dont ask why you cant se them)
Alt. bracket, tension pulley bracket, MAF and still need to do the water pump....but that will have to wait.
As far as clear coating I did not simply becuase after they are polished it is easy to maintain with little effort.
