Default It is driving me nuts

My 04 Z06 has had an interior rattle noise that originates from the rear window behind the driver seat. I posted a while back and some of you suggested that it may be from the interior plastic lower window molding. I tried to put a couple of rubber wedges in, but with no help.

I usually drive her to miltary bases originating out of Los Angeles into Yuma Arizona, San Diego and back to Los Angeles, at least twice a month. I have stopped an monkeyed with the noise numerous occasions and on my last stretch, I said @#$@ it and pulled the entire molding out - and of course broke the platic boses in the process, so now I have to buy a new one.

Soooo, I said may the noise will finally be eliminated now. Stopped at the secondary immigration check point near Julian (San Diego) CA area. and as I drove away - and down hill the noise came back, and I swear I thought it was coming from the glass window rattling against the frame. As I looked intently in my rear view mirror I momentarily lost focus of my driving and my radar detector went off - peak level.. Not enough reaction time since I was looking behind me instead of in front of me (freeway was empty) and you guessed it, I got a ticket 86 in a 70 w/ a radar.

Believe it or not I am more pissed at the stupid noise than the ticket. A family lawyer fights and wins one ticket a year for me - even it is a radar.

Someone please help................................

Sorry to hear about the ticket. I think I'd have someone else drive the car while you sit in the passanger seat and try to locate the source of the noise. I know what you mean about something like that driving you nuts, I'm the same way. Good Luck!

Remove the black plastic just below the window inside and see if it's the metal clips holding it on.

My subwoofer rattles it pretty well and I had to put in some cotton batting to quiet it down. Good luck.

Not trying to jump your thread but why didn't your radar detector sound off before you got into the cop's radar range? That would have pissed me off even more?

It did go off and had I have been paying attention, I would have possibly avoided the ticket. It is a pretty nasty dip in the road and the cop was gloating about his hiding place and his knowledge of radar detectors - he listed all the makes and models...

My point was that I was focusing on the stupid noise looking in the rear view mirror rather than keeping my eyes on the road.

The funny part is 15 minutes earlier a late model cobra had raced me from a 70 mph rolling start three seperate time and I had nailed him all three by many car lengths - he kept asking for punsihment - gave up at 140 mph... And before anyone chimes in it was about 2 p.m. and there was no one elase on the freeway.

Now any one with any help on th estupid rattle??????????

Showing that cobra the door was worth the ticket, can't help you out with the rattle.
God Bess those detectors though, mine has sure saved my a$$ more than once.

Just a thought....
My '04 does not rattle, but when I clean the rear glass if i push hard while cleaning, it seems that the glass moves slightly. I'm thinking in your case that maybe the glass is not set in the lower molding and may be causing the rattle.

Try driving with a passenger pushing outward on the rear glass, behind the drivers seat , it may be the problem.
Good Luck!

Well I think I may have finally found where the rattle is coming from..

I was vacuuming the car and as I was running my hands underneath the rear window (from the trunk area) where I had installed the aftermarket devider and I felt where the rattle was coming from.

It turned out the snaps at the end of the upper straps are cheap quality and after suffering for the last 8000 miles I am ready to take it back to West Coast Corvette and give them a piece of my mind........

BTW I did checked the window seal from the inside and it appears that they skimped on the glue.. You got to love those Union idiots..

Also interestingly enough as I pulled the plastic bottom molding from the inside - and I was very careful - I notided that there are four plastic bosees with metal clips - and you guessed it only the outer bosses had the clips and the two inner ones were broken with no clips whatsoever.. My only guess is more Union idiots...

May be we should start a new poll and ask how many of us believe that part of the quality/fit & finish is to be blamed on the Union worker ethics... And before any one starts I used to be a Union member until I got the hell out of that stupid cult...
