Can anyone clear up the question of Ping Burst on Acceleration. I've noticed that if nail the accelerator either from a stopped position or a rolling position that I get terrible Pinging. I took my car to the dealership and took a senior Corvette tech out for a test drive and duplicated it. The tech told me that Ping Burst is normal and that if I keep my foot in the throttle that the computer will correct the pinging. I'm not real comfortable with his statement. Can anyone give me some guidance on this issue.
My 04 did it when I first bought it. Was an octane issue since the dealer put 89 in it. After a tank of 93 octane i haven't heard it since.
Be careful, I wouldn't trust some gas stations either and I refuse to use pumps with only one nozzle for all 3 grades. I'm weird though and go overboard sometimes.
I try to use the same station whenever possible. In your case it may not even be the fuel though. Could be in the tuning.
I'm no authority, but that sounds like detenation to me. In the old days I would say the timing is retarded which leads to burning pistons. My 01 and 02 Z's don't ping. Good luck,

I agree with the detonation statement. How many miles do you have, and have you ever had a fuel system de-carb service done? Pinging like what you describe is not normal - you need to track it down before serious damage is done.

Actually, the timing is advanced too far if you're getting a ping or detonation. The knock sensor should dial back the timing (retard) as it detects ping, which will decrease power slightly. Typically you will get more ping at part throttle under load, i.e. in 6th gear on the freeway at 60 or 70 MPH when you hit the gas. The ping should disappear though as the computer quickly adjusts the timing. Air temperature and humidity will also affect the tendency to ping. The warmer and drier, the more likely it will ping. Try a bottle of octane boost to see if it goes away. If it doesn't, you've got a tuning issue, or a bad knock sensor. Good luck.
i had the prob in my ls1 camaro-knock sensors were bad...i would do that if ping doesn't go away after some acceleration and better octane-here in kaleforneia we run on 91-and occasionally i get some ping in 2nd -i can't hear it in 1st, to quick and loud...
