Default Fix-a-flat?

Tomorrow I am mounting my new Z06 rims and F1 supercar tires and I was wondering about what to do about flats. I did a search and I know some people spend $300 for a Z06 repair kit but what is wrong with a good ol' $3 can of fix-a-flat? I have used it on my truck and that *repair* is still going strong. I am going to remount my TPS will the goo cause problems with the pressure sensors if/when I have to use it?

No No No don't use it.
It will mess up the sensor from all that I have heard.
300 $ No just a 12 v compressor, a plug kit and a small jack is about all you will need, or a AAA card.

I would suggest you read the following very carefully:

Puncture Repairs the Right Way

Also, Fix-A-Flat and the like can permanently damage tire pressure sensor if you have these mounted in your wheels and the sensors are not cheap to replace.

Hope this helps and good luck.

The minimum you should keep in your car when not running runflats:

Plug kit - $10 at any auto parts store
Flashlight
The usual common hand tools..screwdrivers, pliers, etc.
Small 12v air compressor - $30 at Wally World
Cell phone
Fix-a-flat

In the even of a common nail or screw puncture, the above should be enough to plug it and air it back up and send you on your way. 99% of the time, you do not need to remove the tire from the car to plug it. Just roll the car until you can access the puncture point, plug it, air it back up, and go.

Fix-a-flat should also be carried for the odd (unpluggable) leak, or if the weather is bad you don't want to take the time to plug it. Using it CAN destroy your TPM sensor, but doesn't always. If it gets you moving again and you have no other option, sacrifice the sensor, The sensor is cheaper than a fladtbed ride.
A dead sensor can be replaced anytime at your own convenience, it won't strand you.

Also, the following is from the C5 Tech Tips section of the Forum:

Non Run Flat Tire Field Repair Tool Kit

However, this kit should only be used for a temporary repair. The tire should be taken to a qualified repair shop as soon as possible for a proper repair.

Don't get just any plug kit, get a vulcanizing plug kit.

Don't know about fix-a-flat's use on EMT tires, but on my 04 Z06 with non-emt tires, GM provided me a can of fix-a-flat, tire gauge and a 12v compressor. I thought that was rather comical......

Yeah that's what I was thinking. A new TPS from parts direct is less then $80. I have the usual emergency stuff (including fix-a-flat) in the cubbies and the AAA card in my wallet. I'll pick up a patch kit just in case but I never liked the idea of doing that kind of repair (me laying on the ground) on the side of the road with the way some people drive At least now I know that if I decide to use the can it may cost me $80. BTW, I assume it will it be a gooey mess whenever the tire is replaced?

Thanks for everyone's input,
