Default Oil change procedure

Can any one tell me what the oil change procedure is on a 99 C5. The owners manuel says to check with the dealer on what the procedure is. Any info will be greatly appericated.

Getting under the car to remove the drain plug and filter is easy to get to if you can drive your car up 17 degree ramps for starters. One great benefit for doing it yourself is that you can give it ample time to drain. Be sure to put the emergency brake on when up on ramps and maybe a block of wood under the rear wheel. There is no room for you under the car if it should fall. My wife made me buy ramps strong enough to hold 12,000 pounds. I told her the car tips the scales at 3,000 pounds. She said it didn't matter buy the better ramp. Who am I to argue with a wife who is carrying the ramps to the cash register?

Just try not to spill the oil getting it into your engine and you will do just fine.

I drive mine up on ramps, chalk the front tires, jack the back of the car so it is level with the front, put the back on jack stands, drain out old oil, remove old oil filter, put on new one, jack the car up a few more cranks to get the last bit of oil out, replace drain plug, fill with Mobil 1, let down the back, drive off ramps, let run for a couple of minutes, let oil settle, check oil level...then I check under the car every 15 minutes for the next 5 days to make sure there is no oil leaks...

Peace

I do a slightly easier variation of this procedure. My driveway is sloped. So, I back the car into the garage and position the ramps down the driveway so that when I drive fully on them, the rear wheels are just barely on level ground. At this point, the car is almost level. I chock the backside of the front wheels, remove the oil filler cap, remove the drain plug and let the oil drain. To get the last little bit out, all I have to do is position my floor jack under the middle of the rear cross member. I can dispense with the jack stands because the car is almost level when I start (not even raising it enough to get the rear tires off the ground), and no one is working under it. In the unlikely event the jack fails, the car just returns to it's previous position.

Your e-mail address isn't in your profile but if you e-mail me I will send you a PDF of the oil change procedure from the GM Service Manual.

Your Vette is like many cars and trucks on the roads in the country.

Like the other 216 million vehicles on the roads the Vette has an engine with oil it. Just change it like any other car and you'll be fine. If you are truely bound and determined to get very last drop of old oil out.... I would recommed an engine rebuild with every oil change.
