I'm considering going to our local Costco and have 2 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S rear tyres installed. (275 40YR-18) on my 2001 NMB Coupe. The price is $693.00 for the pair. I've check'd with Tire Rack and they are $640.00 for the pair + cost of shipping to Oregon. My questions are; has anyone lay'd out that much $$$$ to have Costco do the work, were you happy with the results, were there any problems I should be aware of, do they have the intelligence to not destroy the pressure sensor's? Right now I've got Michelin's on the front that are about 6 months old. I also have GY EMT's on the back, so I've got a miss match. The GY's are very noisy. That's why I've decided to go
w/Michelin's.
I special ordered some Mich. from of all places Wal-Mart for my GMC Jimmy and had them installed for what TireRack wanted including shipping. I have used TireRack on several occasions for both wheels and tires and recommend them highly, but for that instance Wal-Mart was the best.
Check with your local Costco to see if they can install Run Flats. My local store dosen't have the correct equipment or a trained Tech .Said they would take $10 off the price of each tire.
The cost saving isn't great, just had a tire shop install the Pilot sport ZP for $700 for rears. Check around and talk to the people that will be doing the tire change, see if they know how to do it and get a feel if they will treat your car the right way. The place I use lets me be right there and watch, they just don't let me help
Can't answer your question re COSTCO directly, but my experience has been that the quality of service will depend strictly on the skill/experience/interest of the installer, regardless of where he/she works. I used one of the TireRack recommended installers (a Mr. Tire) for a set of these same tires on a non-Corvette. They did a lousy job balancing the tires, and while they didn't scratch the wheels, they scratched the car's body in 3 places, to include the hood. I can't even imagine how they did this. If the installler respects your car and has pride in his work, he'll do a good job. If he doesn't he won't. A guy on another site said that he introduced himself to the installer, and dropped a $20 on the guy, asking that the installer take extra care of his car. I personally can't see bribing someone to do his job.
I would buy tires from Costco but hell will freeze over first before I get tires mounted there ever again. I had used 2 different Costcos in mounting tires in our family's cars - both cars came back with damaged wheel lips. They deal with high volume tire installs everyday, and in the process, they are not careful.
I love America's Tire. They take good care of all my cars and even repaired my runflats 2x for free just because I buy tires from them all the time.
You've got me thinking. There is an American Tire place here in Portland, tomorrow I'm going to call them and see if they can order me the tyres and have them installed for the same price as Costco. What I don't want is to have them F%$#@ up my baby.

Did they damage your wheels? Do they actually have the machine to do that? I don't know that I would trust the Wally folks I have seen in their tire shop. Ever see the movie "Deliverance"? These guys look like the locals from that movie.

Thank you
Don't forget your shipping will be probably $60 and then you have installation cost if you buy from Tire Rack (I use them all the time for Racing tires and live close enough that I can go down and have them do installation). Get a non installed price from Costco and as everyone has said take it somewhere where you are sure will do a good job. Make sure that you get a good balancing job on the installation.
I, personally, would never go to a Costco, Wal-Mart, etc., to have run flats (or any othe tire) installed on expensive wheels. To install run flats, you need special equipment, which I'd bet (maybe I'm wrong??) they don't have. You also need people who know what they are doing. Wheels are easily damaged by the unexperienced & careless. Check the place out throughly B4 having your run flats installed. Good luck..
While cost is an important factor in some cases, I dont think it should be in a case like this....Buying tires at one place and asking someone else to mount is asking for trouble...Who is going to warranty the unit, balance ,leaky valve , scratched wheel....tire wear???
Hey all
Somewhere on this site are the instructions from GM on tire changing and air pressure sensors care. I can't find it right now but downloaded it last year. About 11pages. I carry it the Vette glove box-have never needed it. Have shown it to a couple of tire places and they have said they can't do it. So be very carefull who does your work! Not just rim damage but also how they lift your car and what they use on your lug nuts. Don't let anybody rub your lug nut tight with a impact. I would ask if I could do it myself with a soft socket and then torque wrench it myself. Just my $.02
