[Z06] Help - Column Lock problem!!
When the transporter unloaded it and I drove it into the garage I noticed the "Service Column Lock" message. I checked the manual and pulled the key, waited 10 seconds and reinserted but the message still appears.
There's snow on the ground so It won't be driven any time soon but I'm concerned about the message.
By the way, the column lock is not working. I bought it from a 61 year old retired man so I doubt he had a CLB installed but I am confused.
Is it safe to drive to a dealer to have it checked out or is there a simple solution I'm not aware of?
Thanks for any advice.
John

If so, yes, it's safe to drive it this way, and this is also something you can probably fix yourself.
To fix it, get into the fusebox under the passenger floormat, and pull fuse #25 for a couple minutes, then reinsert it. This will reset the BCM and all should be well again.
Alternately, disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will also work, but the fuse is easier.
This should bring your column lock back to life and eliminate the error message at startup. If successful, the next step is to order and install the CLB and be done with the issue.

I had the same exact problem and as someone already stated a low battery condition most likely caused it. I did the fuse thing and that cured it corrected this problem for me!

His column is unlocked all the time, not because of a CLB, but because of a malfunction. This is why he gets the 'service column lock" message at startup.
What happened is...after starting the car, the column physically unlocked, but for some reason the BCM didn't receive the "unlocked" feedback signal. Thus the message appeared (probably while being driven).
From that point on, the BCM will not attempt to electrically lock or unlock the column, It is basically permanently unlocked, and is just as safe as a CLB-equipped car is. The only downside to it being in this state, is having to reset the DIC message at startup.
I drove my car for almost a year this way. Didn't bother me knowing the column never locked, This past fall, my battery died, and upon replacement, the BCM was reset and my damned column lock worked again when I pulled the key out....so I finally installed the CLB.

Charge the battery and you'll be ok. Get the CLB though. You'll never have a problem again. Good luck with you Z06.Save the Wave.>George

He didn't have a column lock, what he had was his column was NOT locking. A CLB wouldn't have prevented this as it is caused by a low battery condition.
