Default Another exhaust comparison???

On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being the stock exhaust and 10 being the loudest possible combination of straight pipes, headers, etc... Can I get some opinions of how much louder some of the exhaust systems out there will make my car and rank them.

For Example
Stock Exhaust=1
Borla Stingers=3
Straight Pipes=5

Thanks

What is your objective? That will make your question easier to answer. Are you looking to keep your headers and cats stock? If not, there are too many combo's of exhaust, headers and cats to rank.

Oh oh... here we go again....

It's subjective - there is no comparison except your own ears. Ask 5000 C5 CF members their opinion on exhaust and you will get 5000 different answers.

IMHO,

Good Luck!

All things being equal and tested on the same car would be the way to poll this one.

You want loud? Long tube headers, high flow cats, no x pipe, Borla straights for cat back. Thats, loud.

One thing is probably for sure - the stock pipes are the quietest. Other than that, it is all up in the air.

Just loud? That's the only criteria? Then I think SLP Loudmouth is probably the winner on that basis.

For Example
Ahh...don't for get GHL's...

Perhaps this should be "What's the SICKEST sounding exhaust..."

Of course everyones ears have their own preference...but GHL Magnum's are totally sick sounding...

Peace

Apologies for lack of description, I had started by typing a lot more but deleted it to try to keep it simple... Here is what I am interested in- I use my car as a daily driver and I am unhappy with the stock exhaust- no big suprise.
Right now I am leaning towards a cat-back borla stinger quad oval system. I don't think I am interested in going back any further to the engine.
I read all of the posts about Borla, Corsa, Straight Pipes, etc... and what I want to know is this. If I am going to drive the car every day (about 80 mile commute- 50% highway- 50% stop and go) 1. how loud is to loud?
2. What brands are louder than others?
3. Would you put straight pipes on a daily driver?
4. Will Borla Stingers wake up the neighborhood as I leave at 5:00 am?
5. Will I be able to hear the radio when I am cruising on the 65mph highway everyday?
6. Most importantly- how much louder are the Borla stingers than the stock exhaust?
I wanted some rankings to try and determine how much of a jump in decibels it would be from the stock to the stingers to the straight pipes!
Thanks in advance, sorry if this is a repetitive thread... and EG thanks for the Now I really feel like a member- I should get another star for that!

Oh- I forgot, getting a system that will pass NJ state inspection and not getting pulled over for it would be nice also...

Default straight pipes

on a scale of 1 - 10,straight pipes are 11 in the loud dept!plenty of interior noise, and you need to blast the radio to almost drown it out!and my car is stock!!!except for the straights!stingers,2 or 4 tip, will serve you well if you're not looking to wake anybody up at 5am.they are pretty tame, until you get on the car,and even then, they aren't wild.i've had those and corsa's which are more tame yet!kind of euro sound on the corsa's.not nearly loud enough/rumble enough for my taste.good luck.stingers probably a 6 on your scale.corsa 5.imho.!!!

99magredcoupe,

I was just kidding.

Just trying to say that the only way to make a judgement on exhaust - is to hear it with your own two ears.

Seek out other Vette owners with aftermarket setups. Listen to their cars outside at idle, revving a bit, on a flyby and at WOT (if possible). Then go for a ride with them and listen to the car at idle, at speed, in traffic, at cruise - and at WOT.

Only then can you tell yourself - "Yes, X Vendor has the system I will buy".

I got my Stingers 2 tip based on a friend's Z06 that was stock except for the Stingers. Loved the sound on his car and I love the sound on mine. Bear in mind that a Z06 and a Vert/Coupe/FRC sound a little different because of the cam in the Z06.

Good Luck.

No Problem, BTW I loved your post on installing the stingers, you are making it difficult for me to justify not doing it myself, I guess I am just afraid of working under a car that I jacked up and blocked... I am going to get the stingers and will let you know if I live to tell about it!!!

I have factory exhaust on my 97 coupe, and took off the mufflers. WOW is it great. One statement: I like it with no mufflers. One question: would Borla Straight Pipes help the resonance go down? The regular straight pipess with no tips resonate pretty bad. Hope someone can chime in.
