She's at the dealership because of multiple electrical issues. The ruduced engine power message came on, check engine light, power seat no longer works, power windows don't work. Dealer says she was struck by lightning or some big power surge. They have had it a week and it looks like it will be a while longer. Anyone ever here of something like this?
but if it were struck by lighting the odds of it screwing up elec. system would be greater. a metal chasis would act as a cage that the electricity would travel around (path of least resistance) but since there is no metal 'cage' it goes right for the chasis where the everything is ground too.
Did (or does) it still have the original battery? If not the original did anyone ever check to see if the original had leaked? The odds of that being the source would seem to be better than lightening...

I tend to agree that this sounds more like a battery that has leaked and is causing all sorts of havoc with your electrical system. Have them check that out first if they haven't already. I guess anything is possible though.
Maybe they are saying it's lightening so that they don't have to fix it under warranty. It's an act of God and not covered. It was hit by lightening like I have three Hooters girls in the next room. I think I'll go check!!!
I think the dealer is out to bend you over. The dealer is full of I am going through the same thing right now and my warranty has been gone. I have the exact same problem you have and described. I'm chasing mine by myself to avoid a $1000 battery or bad ground....Let us know the stealer (oops) dealers results.
Wow, that's good! I want some of the medication that the guy who thought that one up is taking!! Xanax seems to be losing its' edge for me. Maybe it's time to step up to Ativan.
But seriously, and as mentioned above, I'd be on the defensive and get ready for someone to try to pull some chady chit, man.

A car in our parking lot was once struck by lightning. The bolt actually struck a tree and followed a root to our building... probably to find a nice water pipe. The root traveled UNDER the car - probably followed the steel-belted radials - and every electrical device in that car was fried. They totaled it (300Z as I recall).
There wasn't really any visible damage to the car. The tree root was pretty much blown out of the pavement but the car looked fine... wouldn't start though.
I thought lighting tries to find the fastest route to the ground. Your car being fiberglass and probably lower than most things would not be the quickest way to the ground. Of course if you left your car in an open field then you probably would be the first target.
I guess if they came to this conclusion can they tell you how? Do they have an expert on site that can tell if lighting hit?
