Default Maggie or Procharger

I'm thinking about getting a supercharger. I like the Magnacharger's looks plus I get to put on a cool hood. , but I hear the Procharger produces more power, a more useable torque curve, and more boost... . Any preferences and why? I'm sure either would provide enough power for my use. Please post pictures of your superchargers.

The folks over in the C5 Forced Induction/Nitrous section of the Forum may be in a better position to answer your questions on this. Good luck.

I tend to like the maggie more due to it's appearance and that you get another hood to compliment it,lol. The procharger does pruduce more power, but I have heard from some people that they have more wear and tear and tend to have alot of problems. I don't know if this is true or not, but just stating what I have heard.

I've heard the same, that's why I posted this thread.

GENERALLY: To sum it up quick and easy.

Procharger P1SC is good for stock motors, or a few boltons, and you would generally see 500rwhp give or take a few. The boost builds as rpm is increased, but usually builds pretty quick.

Procharger D1SC is good for upgrading, and is usually used when more mods are done, like more boost and forged motors. With this setup, 550rwhp and up is common.

Magnacharger is a good street blower for people who want the boost to be instant and quick. It's good for people who don't race much and don't want to have to wind their cars out to redline to get max boost. The magnacharger tends to be nearing its limits at 500rwhp.

For those of you who like the magnachargers characteristics, but don't like the limits in power, you might consider waiting around a little while longer for the twin screw.

The Procharger will make more power, but the looks of the Magnuson is just awesome. And I agree, the hood looks great on the car.

You got some great info from other posts - Yes the Procharger can make more total hp - But the Mag has more useable torque in the street driving range (it makes a whole lot down way low in the rpm band). Also now there are smaller pulleys avaialble for the Mag - There are 10 second street driven Mag cars - if you want faster than that maybe a twin turbo or extreme boosted Procharger is in order - BUT keep in mind you WILL need a forged bottom end for that much hp.

With that being said, as well as the info on the previous posts, I am definitely leaning towards the Magnacharger. Low end torque without have to redline, that's the ticket. My engine is stock except for bolt ons, and with the possible exception of a heads/cam package, is all I am willing to do to my engine. What am I Don Garlits? I'm sure I would have a really fast car with just the addition of the Maggie. If 500rwhp on the street isn't enough, then theres a problem.

It isn't enough. Power is a drug - just like mod fever. Once you taste it, you're hooked. You become a power junkie and you spend enormous amounts of time and money pursuing an impossible dream - infinite power.

I speak from experience - 497rwhp was not enough. I sold my Procharger and I'm looking to get another from Andy at A&A and hoping for 600rwhp...

Ask Billy182. He was at 550rwhp on his stock engine and he went for a blown C5-R 427 at 720rwhp....

There is never enough power once you leave the safe confines of stock.

My 2 cents.

I'm dumping it for properly sized TT setup that will give me the stump pulling torque I lust for. The Magnacharger is another option but I'm not keen on the "hood on steroids" look.

Things I do not like about the Procharger:

1> It is not stealth as I thought it would be - the gears make an awful racket
2> Power is too peaky and too high up in the RPM range
3> "Lag" - not real lag like a badly sized turbo, but not instantuous like a Roots blower
4> Looks like a A/C unit - no underhood bling.
5> Belts slipping or being shredded. Only one to date, but that was enough for me.

My 0.02cents worth

EG
<edit: I will probably change to 3.73:1 gears and a 2400RPM lockup TC before changing my current FI system>
Well, I have since decided that TTi is what I want but it's out of my price range right now - so I'm going with a A&A Procharger system from Andy. Like the ECS system, it is a single intercooler and it has a lot of other mods over the factory ATI system. I think it will do what I want it to do.

I had another belt shread "at speed" 2 weeks ago, so I sold the ATI Procharger (factory setup).

I'm still going to do gears & TC before I buy another blower though.

I have no idea what you talking about EG, not enough power? How much power do we really need.

My old setup w/ 4.1 gears

My new setup w/3.42 gears

Of course I have a modding problem and fully aware of it. Now, I will have just stupid HP for the street but its all in fun.

Also speaking from experience, 500rwhp is just not enough, though it's much better than 300rwhp

I really think I'd be happy with a 427TT, pushing out 800 or so though

Jon,

When is your car ever going to be done??? It's been in pieces for months now - how can you stand that? It would drive me nuts.

So are you waiting for the Kenne Bell Twin Screw or still going with your custom S/C?
