Default Proper Technique when using a lift

Could someone please explain the proper technique that must be used to safely lift a vette on a two post lift? Is there an adapter necessary or can you simply use pucks? Are the rocker panels most suseptible to damage? thanks

I've had a vette, and a 2 post lifts, but not at the same time

You should be OK with just the pucks. All u have to do is make sure you contact the frame and not the rocker panels. Just go side to side a couple of times as the lift is close to touching the car, to make sure you make contact at the jacking points.

GM makes a J-tool (J 43625) to be used in lifting/jacking the C5. It is very similar to the billet aluminum lifting/jacking pucks that several of the Forum vendors sell here and these will work just fine also. Pucks along with care should always be used so as not to crack or damage the rocker or side panels.

GM recommends use of their pucks in the rear since there is little clearance around the lift point and the lift pad can come in contact with the body panel. In the front there is considerable room at the lifting point and you can easily get a lift pad seated against the frame without touching the body panel.

When I used the 2 post lift at my son's garage to change the oil and filter, we adjusted the adapters on the ends of the arms to compensate for the low rocker panels. No lifting pucks were required.

When I got my car the fenders behind the front wheels were damaged from being on a lift, can anyone suggest a good shop in the Kansas City area to get this repaired?

This is Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet,

You can use pucks, but personally I don't think I would trust my 50,000 + car to something homemade. We have the GM/Kentmoore lift pads available for 79.95 a pair. This is the recommended tool from Chevrolet to safely lift your C5 or C6.

If you wish to order them give us a call at 800-234-5284 or email me at parts@fichtnerchevrolet.com

What's the difference and benefit of the GM/Kentmoore pads over those offered by Elite Engineering? other than price and looks?
