Default Remove Key, Wait 10 Seconds, Reinsert

I got this on my DIC twice today and don't know what it means. The second time the car stopped. Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks

trouble most likely, but maybe not expensive. What year is your car and is it an A4 or MN6 (Auto or Manual tranny)? Do you have a CLB installed? Have you had the recent recall done (the one for column locking issues)?

IF you can start it then it dies when you try to drive it,sounds like the BCM is fried.Thats what it was on mine ,towed to dealer ,fixed under warranty ,then I installed the CLB. Good Luck !BTW manual tranny here.

I read this thread yesterday, and my wife just called me and said that this just happened to her in our 98 A4 coupe. What is the "BCM"? And I am assuming that this ties in somehow with the column lock?

Its either the column lock or a dirty key I would guess...good luck.

Our '02/MN6 did this twice...the dreaded column lock probably is not far behind. If you're not sure and it's a 6 speed...definitely get the CLB...it'll save you time in the long run. May wish to check out this link...great info put together by another forum member.

Try shooting some electrical cleaner spray into the keyhole.... seems to have helped mine....time will tell.

Do the CLB, in my opinion. It'l not only save you money, but it could save a whole lot more than that! My '99 a4 locked, I was stranded, and it was only because of the info I got on this forum, that I was able to get it going again. I did the CLB!!! It's cheap, it's easy to do yourself, and besides, if it does lock and you can't get it unlocked. The CLB won't do you any good until you can get it unlocked. I should have know, cause I was warned!!! Now you are too!

Default Some More Information

My car is an automatic and I got Recall #4006 performed on the vehicle this past January at Criswell Chevrolet. This recall is for the column lock problem.

Thus, what can this error message possibly lead to?

Just out of curiosity, is the column lock something that affects all years or did Chevy figure it out by 04?

Could also be a bad electrical connection at the computer. Mine was. They fixed that and no problems since. Probably worth checking out before you replace the BCM.
