Default 1999 vs 2000 C5

Hopefully, in the next month or so I will be purchasing my first Vette - if I sell my Expedition. I am wanting a C5 coupe with a removable hard top, probably a 2000 or 2001 with under 50,000 miles. I have been doing my homework lately and have decided that I definitely want the HUD, AH, and must be a 6sp.

My question is, what suspension package would you recommend – will only be a nice weather vehicle, but my wife will drive it on occasion also.

Also, I can’t really find any performance data on a 2000 vs. 2001. In a stock vette does the extra 5 hp and 25 lb-ft of torque make much of a difference?

Any input would be appreciated.

Alot of 01's have oil burning issues, especially 6 spds...I avoided that year..I would try to buy a low mileage one owner car. Run the VIN and see if the car had alot of the common C5 problems fixed(gas gauge, column lock, leaky rear). I ended up buying a one owner 99 with only 20k miles for $23k. There are good deals out there so be patient and buy the right car!!

I picked up my 2000 torch red in Dec. (27,000 mi) for $25K. I am very happy with the vehicle. I came out of a BMW Z4 which was bought back by BMW under Florida Lemon Law. I am happy to be back into a Vette.

Regarding what supension pkg. ... I'd go Z51 ... my 1999 has the F45 adjustable and although it is nice, it is very expensive to replace the shocks... with Z51 you get performance shocks and beefier roll bars over base suspension... I ended up putting z06 bars on my ride... the base suspension is easily upgrade able ....

In short my .02 cents stay away from the adjustable F45, base or Z51 is fine....but supension would not be the deciding factor for me... get as recent a model C5 with as low a milage as you can afford and enjoy

I have a 99 coupe and just love it. Nothing special about it; no HUD, no special engine or suspension add-ons, just a regular cool vette.
