I am having the same 'ol starter problem again. Engine gets hot, starter won't work. The problem get worse till it won't start at all (problem now) even when the battery is fully charged and the car is cold?
I think it is heat soaked solinoid? but don't know for sure as a change of the whole starter will fix the problem for a few months.
Where can I find good heat shield for the C5 starters? Thanks for any help
:::I also have this listed in C5 Tech:::
I'd say bad starter or bad battery cables (assuming the battery will pass a load test.) Check your ground and postitive cables for corrosion. If you've had a leaky side-poster then acid could have traveled down the cable and corroded it.

It sounds like the classic heat-soak problem that old GM Musclecars had with the solenoid and starter getting too hot after sitting awhile, but that's really a problem of the past. As T56 says, check all your connections and your battery with a load test.
Hi and thanks for the input. I will of course check all the wireing and connectors for problems. The battery is a near new Interstate 750CCA. I got a little info to look at from the C5 Tech section as well and it may be just a different solinoid set up or the anti theft relay acting up. Anyway I'll give it the good 'ol once over and see? The starters, new work just fine until after 5 or 6 mo, then start to act up and always quit when I'm away from the house Thanks for the ideas here...Bill
