Some say gently wrestle the wheel and others get down right rude about it. Whatever the case unless the wrestling gets the lock to release your done. You must flat bed the car to the dealers and have it replaced. Then install the CLB so that it doesn't happen again. If you do get it loose I'd buy the CLB before I moved it again and install it. You'll save the trip to the dealers. If you do have to take it to the dealers then they will replace it and it will happen again sometime down the road. So whatever you do get the CLB. I actually bought the Harness K that GM puts in the A4 automatics. I figured I'd spend the extra $15 and get the bypass that GM engineered. But they won't put it into the 6 speeds just the A4 automatics. Go figure. So I put it in instead. Good luck and keep us posted. Any other questions PM me.
If the column locks, can't you just install the CLB on the spot?
I thought that by momentarily plugging in the cigarette adapter that comes with the CLB, it unlocks it, and then allows you to complete the installation.

Unfortunately, Column Lock Bypass kit will only work if your column is not locked and that dreaded "Wait 10 Sec., Pull key" isnt flashing on your DIC.
Some say the CLB is needed on *all* C5s and then some list specific years vs Z06 and A4s.
If I have a 2004 A4 do I need to install the CLB? Will someone please just answer yes or no?

Your 2004 A4 doesn't have a steering wheel lock (2001 and newer A4's don't have them). Therefore, forget about the steering wheel locking problem, and concentrate on selling more of those cool cup holders....

Very Frustrating
When this happened to me I took the key out, shook the steering wheel
quite violently left and right a number of times. Then put the key back in, waited about 10 seconds then turned the key and it unlocked. Drove directly to dealer and had the recall work done.

Uhhh, unless you have an older automatic and they put the blocking plate in, your recall did absolutely nothing for you except that when (not if) your column does lock, the car will cut your fuel so you can't have a terrible accident. So, if you have a 6 speed, be afraid, be very afraid and go buy the CLB ASAP.

PS. Bought CLB on 12 December, bought car brand new on 19 December. I did enough reading on here to know better before I owned my car.
How about my 2004 ZO6? Could I have this happen to my car?
thanks,
Lusky
Absolutely no doubt about it. If you have a 6 speed and you haven't installed either the CLB or the Harness K you will experience the horror of the column lock locking and not unlocking. It's just a matter of when this will happen to you. It could be 2 weeks or 3 years but it will happen.
