I had to take my wheels off to try and stop a brake squeal and discovered that the front mono spring (I am guessing that is what the 3" black flat bar running across the front end is) is mounted on 2 threaded studs which have no bolts on them. I am hoping this is to alow flex in the spring but it concerns me that the studs are threaded with no bolts. Is this normal?
Oops sorry, I meant to say the threaded studs have no nuts on them. Is this normal? Sorry for the mistake.
Yes that's normal. The "stud" is threaded into the spring itself.
It has a 10mm hex at the top of it for turning it.
At the bottom of it is a rubber bushing which the lower control arm presses up against. By loosening this stud (thread it higher up into the spring), you raise the bushing towards the spring, which in turn allows the control arm to sit higher, which lowers the car.
