Does anyone know if modifications like cat back exhaust or a shifter voids the major guard warranty? I'd guess something more significant like headers would. Or, at least, that it would void the warranty on those specific modded parts.
I called the local GM dealership, and they were pretty confused about that question for some reason... so I thought I'd ask here. I couldn't turn up anything in a search of the forums.
I just had a bunch of work done under my GMPP extended warranty, and a rep had to come by to OK all the work. He complimented my PRT cat-back exhaust, OK'd the warranty work, and took off.
They have dealers that turn away Stock C5's that are not bought at the dealership that is turning them away... we have a dealer like that here too. OH they wont turn you away but they tell you up front that they wont turn you away but they put their customers ahead of any outside work.. and this dealer told me outright that in the 22 years that they have been in business , they never have run out of their customers cars to work on... No you do not get in line.. you go to the back of the line, and until the day we no longer have a customer's car to work on, we will then roll yours in...it could be next week next month or next year... then he said are you going to leave it...?
Many dealers have this attitude, many look for an excuse to void your warranty.. the Moss Magnuson Act is like a paper tiger... it has no teeth... IF you force them to take your car... do you really want them working on it???
There are many good dealerships... but unfortunately they are few and far between... of the 40 or 50 GM dealers in this area in a 20 mile radius, I have to drive about 35 miles to find one that is credible.. I'm Happy I do Not have GMPP...my Independent is 2 miles from my house..and treats me with respect... it just goes to show just how pathetic GM dealerships are in this area... and how inept their service departments are.
IF you force them to take your car... do you really want them working on it???
That's exactly what I'd worry about if I had to go around looking for a dealer than would perform warranty work. I don't want to give them an excuse to void the warranty while I still have it... just was curious if anyone has been turned away because of simple mods like those I mentioned.
FYI, the shop that performed the extended warranty work on my '99 coupe is an independent. I would never even consider taking my car to a dealer. Many independents honor extended warranties, including GMPP. This particular independent specializes in Corvettes, builds modified Corvettes, is a founding member of a local Corvette club, and does spectacular work!
Try www.warrantydirect.com This is the one Evil-Twin uses as well as many others on this forum.
This is fine as long as you don't have a Z06. I went to the WarrantyDirect website, and as soon as I selected Z06, I got a pop up box that proclaimed they would not warranty Z06's!
If I get an extended warranty it'll be an aftermarket one. It get me mad just thinking about GM's plan and how they treat their customers. So since it's the beginning of the week I am not going there. Have a nice day.
To answer your question, absolutely not!!! Those mods will not cause anything to fail. That is the question, did the modification cause the part to fail? If so, it won't be covered. In your case you have nothing to worry about. GMPP is a great warranty.
