just dont get it. Out for a drive to the store yesterday, and a dirty yellow Z06 pulls up along side at a light. Now, I have my top off, car is spotless. I see him looking at my car, and I yell over to him that I wish the weather would stay nice. He looks at me with that hollier than thow look, guns his engine, turns his face forward and drives on. Who in the f**** does he think he is? Its not a wonder that people have the misconception that all Vette owners are snobby sob's. I wish there was a test you had to take on personality prior to being able to purchase a Corvette!
You said some, so does that mean you have ran into more then one Z06 guy that was a jerk because you drive a coupe?
I wave regardless of the year, make or model vette. If they don't wave I don't throw a fit over it.
I come out the store and go back to my coupe and there's a guy there with a silver Z06 and some teenagers oohing and ahhing.
I say hello, and this is how the conversation goes.
Me: "Hey, sweet ride. What year?"
Him: 2002, just got it, what year's yours?
Me: 2004
Him: Wow they really changed it.
Me (confused): What do you mean
Him: Well look how your rear glass is part of the hatch and mine goes right down and I have more of a trunk.
Me: Wow, you're right (got in my car so I could release my laughter without embarassing the guy)
Moral - you're right - some people don't have a clue about vettes...not that there's anything wrong with that
It may not have been his car. He might have borrowed it from a friend and thought he was badazz for the first time in his life. He's probably back in his fart-canned ricer again.
Most Vette owners I've met are top notch. Maybe he just had a bad day, or was late to his appointment at the detailer.....
Unfortunately I disagree... Most Vette enthusiasts are good guys. Most Vette owners are +40yo posers that think they are better than other people just because they own a vette. No wonder the ricers (not the ones with coke can mufflers) dont want anything to do with the vette scene. I guess this (along with the $ factor) is why the younger LS1 crowd prefer Camaros and Firebirds.
I used to be into the fast 4-cyl scene (ie. 10sec supercharged Toyota AE86) and I must say that scene is a whole lot more fun. You got high technology, fast cars, sexy girls...whats not to like for a 28yo red-blooded male???
Before the commences, I love Vettes so much I have two of them...
I'd bet the reason that he had an extra 55 hp over you, made him thing that he was better then you. With that in mind he didn't owe you any respect
I actually get less waves, nods, etc... from z's as regular Vettes. Maybe they think my poor old FRC is a wanna be... Still, assuming they have an extra 55 hp could also be a mistake
C5er's do it to us all the time, suck it up and move on
Just for that reason, I always make sure I wave to the older generations... FWIW, I have yet to have anyone in a c6 wave... sniff sniff. Holier then thou bastards...

I think many of the C6 owners just don't know about the wave, many of them are probably first time Corvette owners. I certainly didn't know about the wave before reading it on the forum.
I was recently at a Motercycle shop that specialized in Dirt Bikes and ATV's...one of the sales guys had a new 04 Z06...absolutely beautiful car...he was younger late 20's...so I got to talking about Vettes (seeing my red 97 out front) I asked him if he got many waves as he drove around...he said yes... WTF is up with that...in horror I said its like a brotherhood (sisterhood too I guess) where you wave to another Vette showing you are both loving a great American sportscar...you know- you have something in common...
He looked at me with a straight face and said "That is the stupidest thing I have heard", he continued to go on... "I bought this car because it was faster then my WRX" needless to say...to some people...it is just a fast car not a tradition!

I'm not sure what you are disagreeing with.... unless you've met the same Vette owners that I have..... A lot of us over 40 guys arn't such bad folks, I'd even venture to say most of us..... Sorry you've had experiences to the contrary....

Thanks for the understanding...From my viewpoint, I disagree with the statement "Most Vette owners I've met are top notch"
...I will agree that most hardcore enthusiasts are top notch (ie. the ones that race and hang out on the boards) but unfortunately most Corvette owners have done little to improve the cars performance and use it to pose.
Maybe he misunderstood you; he may have thought you were telling him to get his car cleaned or something to that effect because his hearing isn't that good.
