My neighbor has just bought a C6. He wants to get a new exhaust system put on but is unsure who should do the work. Does the dealer have to install the exhaust system to keep the waranty valid? Will the dealer even install a non GM exhaust system? Wiil the new system effect his California emmisions if he just modifies from the catalyst back? Or should he just go to a good muffler shop? Any help would be greatlt appreciated.
Thanks
Catback exhaust is legal in all 50 states, and no, the warranty won't be affected. A dealer does not have to do it. Very simple job on a C5, not sure about the C6 exactly...but safe to say any fairly mechanicly inclined person should have little trouble with it.
Thanks for the help.

Depends on the dealer. Some will, some won't.
Other than the warranty claim aspect, dealer's service shops are pretty much their own seperate business...If you're footin' the bill for the install labor, like most any mechanic's garage they'll do most anything you ask of them (within reason). You'll just pay more for it.

DON'T do this through the dealer. Even if they would install it they'd charge way too much. If you're not doing an X-Pipe it's about as simple as "wax on/wax off". I installed an X and GHL's a year and a half ago. Took 3 hours with a lift I rented for $10/hr including tools.
If that's not available, any good muffler/brake shop should be able to do it reasonably priced. But I'd be there the whole time under the car with them because I doubt they've done it on a C6 yet.

I helped a friend install some B&B exhaust on a C6. We used a lift, even then we had to SawZaw the old passengers side off. Not enough room between the gastank and tranny to get it out. To install the pasenger side, we had to drop the H pipe and we had to unbolt the passenger gastank shielding. After the insall we bolted the shielding and H pipe back in place. Drivers side went smoother, but still tight.
It was MUCH more difficult than a C5 exhaust install! Have a pro do it, save yourself the trouble.
