Resetting the Computer
Tony
It's a computer, not a electronic diary.
The computer bases engine performance on engine parameters and climate conditions.
I wish it would adjust for driver conditions. Maybe it would get some of these slow-pokes to speed up or better yet move over.
Hey, you might have come onto to something here!!!!

Well, maybe it is my turn to laugh.
Ever hear of adaptive strategy; guess not. Modern auto computers use more than inputs from various devices to control the engine/trans via outputs to various other components. They also use algorithms that detect the driving habits of the driver, and adapts certain functions in the PCM/TCM to how the vehicle is driven.Generally, adaptive strategy is used on the transmission side of the PCM, or on a TCM, and is used to adapt the trans shifting for the driver. Used on almost all trans controllers that control a 5-speed trans, but also used on some 4-speed transmission such as the one used on the Vette.
Aisen Warner makes a 5-speed transaxle used on some GM vehicles that if reprogrammed or the battery is disconnected, the tech has to take it for a twenty minute drive to allow it to adapt. If not, the customer will drive out of the parking lot, and turn around since it will be shifting like a drunk driving a manual. This twenty minute adaptive drive is only to set the main adaptive algorithms, it adapts over a longer period of time to normal driving modes.
In answer to the original posters question, yes, disconnecting the battery should reset the trans adaptives. However, with the 4L60/65E transmissions used, you may not notice that much of a difference. The adaptive algorithms used on the C5 were minimal, and to be honest, since this is an ongoing learning process of the computer, it will adapt to your driving habits in a few hundred miles (or it should).
