Everyone,
I am going to buy a car cover for the vette b/c i have to store it outside now. What's the best one in your opinions? I found the Ecklers cover for $125 total that comes with a lock.
thanks in adv.
Three or four companies manufacture the majority of the cover fabrics used in today's car covers - Kimberly-Clark, Nextec, Glen Raven Mills, etc. The handful or so of companies that manufacture (sew) car covers all get their fabrics from one or more of these sources. Here are a few web sites that may help you in choosing a cover fabric that is right for your use:
CoverCraft located in Pauls Valley, OK is the World's largest manufacturer of custom car covers and IMO, makes excellent quality covers. In addition to the CoverCraft brand, they also make covers for several other companies who in turn have their brand label put on these covers. In some cases, the same cover with another company's brand label will sell for a premium price only because of the brand name. So, shop around and you may well save yourself some money on a high quality cover. A number of the Forum supporting vendors here sell the CoverCraft brand or covers made by CoverCraft. The following link contains a list of companies that sell the CoverCraft brand or covers made by CoverCraft:
Hands down, the best quality / performance / cost cover available today is the NOAH brand covers!
No offense intended, but NOAH® is not a brand of car covers as is often mistaken by a number of people here. NOAH® is a cover fabric manufactured by Kimberly-Clark Corp. NOAH® fabric is used in covers manufactured or sold under a number of different brand names - CoverCraft, Wolf, California Car Cover, etc. IMO, NOAH® is an excellent fabric, but may or may not be the right fabric for everyone depending on how the cover is to be used. See the links on choosing a cover fabric in my post above.

Excellent information! I was wondering why different brands used the name NOAH in their descriptions. This explains it. I am in the market for a cover myself and this will help my decision. Thanks.

I like the covers made from NOAH material, and have 4 of them on different cars that sit outside. The only downside is that they are heavier and less compactable then Weathershield or Stormweave covers. So if my vehicles are sitting outside mostly and I don't have to take the covers off and on and store them when off they are the best. With covers that come off and on often and need to store in the trunk the thinner (but very waterproof Weathershield) cover is my choice. Good luck
From: I'm a Texan, but I traded the horse for the Vette.
I'm gonna have to disagree. I think the Stormshield cover that i DO HAVE FOR SALE is the top of the line. Did I ever mention it's NEVER been used except for the pic I took? OOOH, well enjoy.

THANKS for correcting me!!! Actually my mistake is BIGGER than you can imagine!! I worked at Kimberly-Clark in their Nonwoven Fabic Development division during the years that the Evolution® and Noah® fabrics were being developed. I also worked at KC's manufacturing plants where these fabrics are produced and know that their quality systems are second to none in the industry for manufacturing of these fabrics. I know this because I left KC (mistake) and went to work for a competitor that produces these types of fabrics as well. TRUST ME when I tell you that the lower end laminate fabrics (primarily the Evolution 4® wanna-be's) don't hold a candle to the Kimberly-Clark produced materials. In the world of car covers, the statement "you get what you paid for" is VERY TRUE! The primary "weak-link" in fabrics is their stability to degredation when exposed to the outdoor elements (primarily UV-rays and acid rain). The stabilization additive packages used by KC is second to none!! I am a supporter of the KC fabrics because I know first hand how much testing and research has gone in to developing these fabrics over the last 15 to 20 years.
Again THANKS for correcting my faux pas!!!! :o :o :o

Agree with GrayC5 - he's got great info and links.
Bottom line - there ARE differences in covers, primarily to accomplish what you want a cover for. If you want it just for sunshine protection, you get one. Or for just dust, you might get another, maybe even just a flannel. I was particularly interested in "ding" protection, as I had it parked in a garage with a lot of stuff around that could potentially ding it. There used to be a link that I saw that compared all of them for what you wanted - that was the basis for my purchase. Buy it for what you need it for, not for who says is the best.
Just my .02
I tend to be a very analytical person. I researched the dickens out of these car covers before making the correct decision. I offer, FOR FREE!, the results of ALL of my analysis: Eenie, meenie, minee, moe, catch a tiger by his toe, if he hollers let him go, eenie, meenie, minee, moe and out goes Y.O.U! The ABSOLUTELY CONCLUSIVE results of all of this analysis forced me to purchase a Covercragt StormProof Gray C5 cover without any logo stiching. Now you know. (btw, just ordered it, don't have it yet).

Mark,
Please don't be too rough on yourself. We all have these moments at times. Besides, the insider information you presented above on the K-C fabrics is value added to this thread and more than makes up for it.
Thanks for sharing this valuable info with all of us here!
