If anyone is still undecided about the CLB install because they think it may be too difficult for a non-mechanic...don't wait any longer. I too was apprehensive at first, but with all the help here I accomplished the task in less than 20 minutes. No problems, no codes! I got my CLB from Corvettes of Houston and their enclosed directions were thorough, but I did print out the CF CLB thread with pictures just to be safe, and they were very helpful.

My Column Lock Simulator is still sitting in my garage. I know the actual install it is straight-forward but tearing out part of my dash to hook it up is what's stalling me. I KNOW I need to bite the bullet and get this done
Could you post the link to the Tech thread you used?

As the instructions mention, the most challenging part of the job is putting the passenger side of the knee pad back in place...just take your time and don't force it...
You only have to remove 4 screws but you need at T-15 torx screwdriver. I am always amazed when I complete a mod, not being a mechanic, and it works as advertised. I do READ the instructions several times and get my workspace set up with all the things I need before I start.
I am going to put mine in when I do the gauge bezels and at the same time change out the shifter and ebrake boots. And put a console cover on. May as well get some bling coming out.

Go for it and good luck!
Thanks coast7 and thanks to the author of the how-to web page.
The Corvetteforum is a most incredible source of knowledge. I am grateful and appriciate all those who contribute.
There is a little mechanic in all of us, I am happy you have found him...
with each attempt that guy gets alittle bigger.
Good Job, I knew you had it in you...
Is thier anthing you can install if you had the chevy recall already done.
I had the Chevy recall done...that recall (on an '98 MN6) simply reprograms the computer to shut off fuel if the column locks...it does nothing to the column lock system. If you have an A4 I believe the recall removes the locking plate...so you don't need to do the CLB.
The CLB physically disconnects the electrical connection to the column lock system and renders it useless. That means it will not provide you with a locking system for your steering wheel; thus reducing your level of vehicle security. But most would rather not "enjoy" an inadvertent column lock and can live with this reduced security factor. You replace the disconnected column lock unit with the "simulator" (which is what the CLB kit is) so that the computer still thinks the column lock feature is installed and prevents error codes on the DIC.
So many people have researched this and installed the CLB, as a novice I can honestly say it is a "no brainer"
