Well, not that I needed another car at the house but I just couldn't pass up the good deals that were out there for the remaining 2004 Z06's. I picked my car on Saturday and I cannot believe I waited this long to get one of these! I haven't even thought about the mods for this car and I am amazed at how easy it is to drive this car FAST! I am already saving my pennies for the new tires I'm sure to need by the end of the summer.
Anyway, I have a couple of quick questions. The first has to do with the column lock bolt, is this something I should do myself or is this a dealer issue if the car is under warranty? I've already orderd the CAGS part after reading all the comments on other posts. The other question I have is about car covers. Right now, I don't have any garage space so my new Vette is sitting outside. I have a decent cover on it now (off of my '69) but it doesn't fit real well. Can anyone suggest a high quality outdoor cover? Hopefully I'll have a spot inside soon but until then... the PA winters have me at their mercy.
Welcome fellow C3 owner. Although we sold our oringinal owner '81, I can't believe the comfort this Vette has either. I guess if I wait another 20yrs to purchase another new one, I might think the same thing.
I just bought a Silverguard cover for ours. It resides in the garage with the other toy so not needed for everyday use. I use a Silverguard on the BMW outside and the only issue is when it's wet. They need to be hung to dry before putting back on and the car should be clean when you do it. I also used a Noah on another car and the same issue is there plus the "film" it leaves on the car whether it's wet or dry.
I haven't done the column lock thing and may/may not. I did put the CAGS in and glad I did.
Welcome fellow C3 owner, the Z06 is a brute and not afraid to race. SO good choice and good luck. If the Z06 is going to be outside, your are forced to spend the money to protect. COVERKING has the stormproof line Z06 red or yellow 230 with z06 logos 260. Silverguard with the C5 logo 120 and Noah at 150. Mid- America has all three.
Have fun!
That's the car to own for a sweet corvette! I drove a lot of corvettes but ended up with the C5 Z06 as the finest vette in all categories ever produced in my opinion.
I bailed out on a 70 454 purchase because the Z06 is like lightning compared to that cold blooded T Rex dinosaur.
Wait till the roads get hot and the car sticks like a champ for serious driving!

Hopefully the car won't be outside for too long but with the way the weather is here, even a few days isn't going to be good for it. I'll check out the COVERKING Stormproof line.

When I was driving home from the dealer I got a little taste of the the cold roads/Supercar tires experience. C'mon Summer!!!

Thanks.
My dealer assured me that column lock was not a problem on the 2004 so I have not installed the CLB. If a problem develops I will expect the dealer to handle it, but I am not seeing the problems with the 2004 as I did with earlier models. You may want to talk to your dealer before making a change.

They made absolutely no changes to the CL on any C5s. It will malfunction - just a matter of time.

I don't see enough posts to believe that "it's just a matter of time" on the column lock. What we have here is a piece of equipment that may malfunction more than average, but the posts lead me to believe that GM has improved its performance.
I still see this as a question each owner must evaluate based upon his/her own driving habits. If someone travels a lot I could see the threat being greater than someone who spends most of the time driving around town. I've dealt with service people often enough to develop a feeling for the strength of their assurances and when I am facing BS. I don't question your decision to install a CLB, but I do doubt that you have the solid statistics to back up a statement that the column lock would fail sooner or later. Of course it is true that any piece of equipment will fail sooner or later, but I assume that is not what you mean.
just bought a NOAH cover for my z for $135 plus shipping from 4vetteparts@***.net. Found Frank on eBay, by far the cheapest for that cover, which from what I've been able to tell is the best for protection from minor bangs and nicks, and is also outside rated.
And thanks to everyone else for all your help. I am going to let the dealer fix the CLB, no sense worrying about it if it isn't going to cost me anything to get corrected.
We had 6 inches of snow last night but I'm hoping for a nice weekend so I can get out and drive.
Congrats, your car may have been affected by the lower balljoint washer recall. It only applied to certain 2004 Corvettes,by Vin#. Your dealer should be able to supply you with the info.If your car was affected, hopefully the dealer corrected this issue.
The "old" ones are nice. (I love'm) BUT, there ain't nothing like stomping the Z in comp. mode. The only must have add on imo is a partition. Really reduces the road whine and makes stereo better. You still get plenty of exhaust roar. Congratulations!
You know, I had a friend that used to complain about his tax dollars supporting my (bad) habits. To this day I still can't figure out what he was talking about.
