Default Pitting on inner rims?

Anyone have a problem with the Z16 rims pitting on the inside? Mine look like they have been hit with buckshot. Tried polishing them this weekend, third time since owning the car, without any luck. I'm off to the dealer this week once the roads clear up to haggle.

Yep, same problem here.. The chrome looks great on the outer portion but the inner wheel looks like terrible.. Dealer told me they couldn't do anything about it because they had been chromed..

Me 2! I'm thinking of spraying some chrome looking spray paint & a clear coat on the inside....Anyone have any thoughts on that idea??

Mine are pitted from the backside of the Spokes to the inner rim. I looks almost like someone hit it with buckshot. I've had many an aluminum rim and never had one do this before. It is also strange to have all four rims do this. I'm just waiting for the dealer to give me some song and dance about brake dust, salt, sand, road kill, or other sob story so I can point him to the front side of the wheel which is in great shape.
Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Just got back from the dealer. WOW is all I can say. Not even a haggle they looked at the rims set me up with an 05 Monte Carlo as a loaner and pulled the car into the body shop to jack it up and send the rims out. Looks like it will be about 7-10 days till I get my baby back. I asked if they were going to put new rims on but they have a shop which refinishes the rims to new. Great service so far!!

Suppose to be another few days till I get the rims back. Good time to wait I guess, weather hasn't been the greatest.
I'll post back with the results when I get the Z back.

Did the dealer tell you what may be causing this? Mine have done the same. Also, they did fix it under warranty right? My coupe is an 02' & I still have factory everything(brake pads etc.) so it should be a warranty issue.

I can't wait to see how things went with yours.

Default Chrome Wheel Pitting

There is a GM TSB about the OEM chrome wheels pitting from brake dust accumulation.

Subject:
Pitting and Brake Dust on Chrome Wheels

Models:
2005 and Prior GM Cars and Trucks

Analysis of Returned Wheels

Chrome wheels returned under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty for pitting concerns have recently been evaluated. This condition is usually most severe in the vent (or window) area of the front wheels. This "pitting" may actually be brake dust that has been allowed to accumulate on the wheel. The longer this accumulation builds up, the more difficult it is to remove.

Cleaning the Wheels

In all cases, the returned wheels could be cleaned to their original condition using GM Vehicle Care Cleaner Wax, P/N 12377966 (in Canada, P/N 10952905). When using this product, you should confine your treatment to the areas of the wheel that show evidence of the brake dust build-up. This product is only for use on chromed steel or chromed aluminum wheels.

I believe on the Z16 they are not chrome but poished aluminum. The pitting is in the area where it looks like the clear coat has come off the rim. As for brake dust, the wheels are cleaned at least two to three times a week when it is driven daily. If I just take it out for a spin then the wheels get cleaned when I get home. I have changed the pads to Ceramics but this should not make a difference on the rims, the SSR comes standard with ceramics and my wifes do not have the pitting problems.
I think the pitting is caused by poor quality control in the application of the sealer on the wheels.
I talked to the dealer this morning and they are expecting the rims back hopefully tomorrow so I can get the Z06 back, almost two weeks without the it and I'm starting to go crazy with the warm weather arriving.
I'll post some more back when I get the car.

Got the Z06 back yesterday and everything is awesome. The dealer did things right and even cleaned the car up from sitting around for two weeks. A+++++++ service from this dealer!

UPDATE!!!
Got the car back from the dealer last night. The rims turned out great. Awesome service from the dealer. They even detailed the car because it was dirty after sitting in the corner on jack stands for two weeks. Great job!!
