I really appreciate the input of all who made suggestions regarding the best radar detector. For my driving habits I purchased the Escort 8500 X50 and the ZR3 laser shifter. I am convinced that those of you who suggested that the V-1 may be superior were right, but for my habits I think the Escort is good enough. Oddly enough I received one speeding ticket over ten years in a C4, but tend to step on it a bit more often with the Z. I guess it's a character defect, but in my defense I think I was born that way. In any case I decided to take steps to decrease the number of tickets I might get. I would encourage people to surf the web as the first store I contacted wanted $1500 for the above and I got it installed for $900. A big difference.
I added the Alpine CDA7998 player with the Alpine CHAS634 6-disk changer. I tried Delco, but it was inferior as a changer. Also installed was an Eclipse EA3422 4 channel amp, a 10 inch subwoofer and Eclipse speakers front and back. With the self-made partition from sound board it goes without saying that the stereo system provides greatly improved sound over the Bose.
I did add the K&N filter system, but decided that improvements over the titanium mufflers were not worth the cost. It's hard to imagine needing more acceleration than the Z already provides, but that's not to knock anyone who wants to increase the hp.
I initially wanted a C6, but someone was looking out for me the day I walked into a showroom and encountered a black Z. More power to those who favor something else, but a Z06 was the only way to go for me. IMHO too many people refer to a Z as a racing car and discourage people from taking a closer look. The Z is the ultimate.
Nice choice on radar/laser protection.
The ZR3 Laser Shifter is an excellent deterrent against tickets.
Where did they mount your sensor modules? I mounted my front ones behind the screens and the back one is above my license plate. Works great!

Your question is interesting because I was informed that a car with no front tag (I have not mounted one yet) with no exposed headlights was a very poor target for laser. If that is correct front placement should not matter so much. I think that they are going to mount the front sensors on the small shield in front of the placement area for the front tag. However I will ask then about placement on the screens.
I can't help but wonder if a cop is sitting on the side of the road using laser that it would be noticed right away if you are not displaying a front plate when it is illegal to do so. You may get pulled over anyway for that minor infraction.....I dunno....

I've heard that too, but have also read of several instances where it doesn't really matter if you have a front plate or not. I really wouldn't trust the no plate theory myself.
The screen hasn't seemed to effect the sensors operation at all and gives it that much needed hidden stealth look.

Yes it is possible that not having a front plate could aggravate a cop who is trying to et a laser fix, but not having a plate where it is illegal is an "in your face" act to begin with. I am giving serious consideration to putting in some wires to hang my tag around town and then remove it when I travel. I've also thought of wearing the front mask all the time and hiding the tag area in doing so. I know that act is illegal, but the cop won't know if there is a tag there or not. I am concerned about tickets, but so far no so concerned that I have placed a tag on (in eight months and 3500 miles of driving). I think some forum members live in areas or states in which the police either ignore the problem or act a bit fanatical in enforcing the law. It is probably not uniform.
