I haven't posted in a while because I've been really busy selling my condo and buying a house. If anyone out there is considering selling their Vette to invest in real estate.....do it!!! I was in my condo for four years. Sold it, was able to buy a nice house, pay off the Vette, and best of all park it in a garage. I wouldn't have been able to do all that if I hadn't driven a beater for a few years in order to put my money into that condo. I can honestly say it's all been worth it. On the other hand, maybe I should have moved out of NY. This snow is killing me!!!! Oh well. At least I have a garage now.
I'll share my story if it's okay and then I'll offer my free advice.
In 1991 I sold my paid for Corvette and paid for house and put all the money into the stock market and moved into a 450 sq foot apartment. Most might consider that a gutsy move. I won't lie here. I some some winners and losers with the stocks I bought. I lived like a bum up until a year ago when I paid cash for my home and bought my 02 vert with cash a month ago and I still have enough to left over to semi retire.
My advice is to make the house payments and hope the value of your property appreciates to those outrageous prices I hear about in some states. When you have a big enough equity, then sell, & run with the cash to Texas or Oklahoma where many cities have deflated home prices and you probably can live the rest of your life like a king.
Or, you could buy a house in Houston, they depriciate like a used car.
Congratulations!!
My lady friend is planing to go to Houston in the next couple of weeks looking for some cheap property to invest in, Cali is way to expensive. I purchased my house in 1970 for 26K, it worth $500K today, yes go where you can live like a king.
