no, it is an easy removal - just pop out the retainer plugs and it's off...

You can purchase a "Door Plug Puller" ($6.00) at a local auto supply store.. also get a few additional plugs (3 for $1.99). You can use your plug over and over and over again.. But, you WILL drop one and believe me, they never fall on to the ground!
Some have also used BBQ forks or screwdrivers to pop out the plugs...
Good luck,
Paula

No tool needed. I just slipped my fingers in and gently pried them up. I used Testors Enamel paint markers. The only hard part is the fleur-de-lis...the embossing seems to be incomplete.
Take your time when doing it.

I tried a door plug puller but prefer just to use my fingers.
The plastic plugs pop out very easy.

Claw hammer works good to remove the plugs, used one several times.

Easy DIY Mod. Take as long as necessary to get the look you want.I got high temp flat black grill paint(spray can) and did the entire liner 1st. Then I used fabric paint and have seen others that used glass paint. Both from fabric stores or craft shops. Its like painting a sponge. I fooled around with mine for a week. Hour or so here and there. have fun with it.

What a popular thing to be doing! I'm on coat 5 of white and red and 1 0r 2 more should do it. I did break a couple of the retainers, 6 for $5 at NAPA. I found that getting my fingers under the tab and twisting CCW while pulling was the easiest (without a tool) removal method.

I have done the same thing. Claw on the plug. The head of the hammer in one hand the other on the handle. Pop those suckers right out.
