I upgraded the exhaust on my C5 using the Borla Stinger from the cats back. The problem is; interior resonation inside the car is too loud. I plan on reinstalling the stock exhaust but no longer have a lift, I'm pretty sure the aftermarket exhaust can be removed by lifting the car with a floor jack (the pipes and mufflers are clamped) but the question is; will I be able to manipulate the fixed stock muffler and pipe with such limited access? Of course the other option is to have the local Chevy dealer do this for me, but every time I have used this dealer in the past something is not done to my liking. Hence the old adage; "if you want the job done right.....".
It can be done. I removed and installed my GHL catback in my garage.
You just have to jack the rear of the car waaaaay up there to get the stock system back on/off. Be sure to use some good jack stands and leave the jack under there for extra safety. If I remember correctly, the stock pipes need to be twisted towards the outsides of the car 1st to get the pipe over the axle. I just remember that each side of the stock pipe is twisted in opposite directions from each other. The driver's side is easier - seems to be more room to work with.
I did mine last summer. Was a pretty good wrestling match to get the stock ones out. You have to jack up the rear to where the front nose is about 1" from touching the ground (smashing the crap out of the flexable air dams). Be sure to block them front wheels good. BTW, get some Corsa Indys if you want quiet @ cruise and some pretty good bark @ WOT.
Of course you can do it, but without the right equipment it could be dangerous.
After doing mine in my garage (replaced stock with GHLs) I am not sure that I would do another. The car has to be really high off the groung which forced me to use a 4x4 piece of wood between the car and the jack. The front of the car was on rhino ramps too so I had to make sure they were blocked and I had to keep checking to make sure the caqr was not moving. 1 slip and the car and jack would roll away.
I say pay the $60 to a local muffler shop and have them do it.

I did mine and after getting the car up high enough I was scared to death that something was going to let go and my car!! Everything was fine and if you take your time and be careful you can do it, but DON'T rush or you could be very sorry!!
I have the Borla touring and it sells for $1200. new but it's not loud enough for me. I'm going to a Borla stinger. I might be interested in trading. If you are please let me know. My Borla was on when I purchased and is supposed to be about a year old. It's in great condition just not loud. It's a 1999. pastorbarnett@sbcglobal.net

You'll need to get the car about 3 feet off the ground to do the swap (mainly due to the stock pipes). If you can't get it that high, just go to a local muffler shop - they should do it for about $50.
