My steering wheel will turn ...
with the engine off on my '03 A4. Does this mean that it's got the column lock bypass, or has been to the dealer for the 'fix'? I bought the car used, but that did not show up on the service history that SpongeVette was nice enough to run for me some time back.

A4's don't lock. It's normal. We don't have to worry about Column Lock malfunctions

Considering that the information from SpongeVett submitted is recent, I would assume that you have an aftermarket CLB.

The real story is---starting in 2001, automatic C5's do not have a steering column lock built into the steering wheel. They do not need the "recall" or a CLB....
