GTO is geared more toward people that don't know when to shift. You know, old, semi-blind individuals that can barely hear the engine roaring. They need that flashing light to tell them it's time to shift. Just kidding.
I have a shift light in my HUD. Would be a nice added feature if it were in the dash.
My 350Z has one in the dash. You can adjust it to blink at any given RPM. Pretty cool!

I drive a Z06. If I need something to beep or light up to tell me when to shift, I shouldn't be driving the Z. That's the dumbest idea I ever heard of. Save it for the kiddies and their little tunermobiles.

Yea that's why many people have installed shift lights in their Z06's. You may not need it, but many like it. It's just a tool like everything else in the dash.
For some reason I react to the SHIFT indicator on the HUD. I've relied on for the last 5 years. I see it and bang I shift. It seems perfectly mated to my style of driving. I seldon hit the rev limiter when I shift using the SHIFT indicator in the HUD and the tach is at 6400 RPM's at the end of the shift. Works for me, but then I'm not a professional looking/needing to extract the last few hundred RPM's out of my car.
Well duh... the GTO is a much better car... you should go buy one
Personally, I can hear the RPMs getting close to red and I'll glance down to hit my perfect 6500 rpm shift when drag racing. Running HPDEs you can just feel it when she gets up there and I shift around 6000 rpms unless I've got a Viper or Porsche TT to play with.
Same here, been to redline often enough,
at least once during every drive ,more if I have a new rider
I never noticed the shift indicator.
guess I'm paying attention to other things during warp.
That raptor looks pretty cool.
been 30 days since the last gift.

wtf?
when you're launching at 6200 on stickies, and that sucker hooks up to the tune of low 1.5X 60fts, it's very much a head rush. Literally. The 1-2 comes so fast you have no time to be looking down at the tach or "listening" for a rev point. You're trying eveything you can to keep your eyes down the 1320 and the car yanking dead straight in the groove.
I wouldn't think of hard driving without my raptor. Keeping your eyes on the track or road is paramount.
